k you aught too come to see me why dontyou. I came to see you last week. Here this interesting epistle ends. That is beginningyoung for a girl of seven years, is nt it ? I asked herwhat else she was going to write, and she said shewould nt tell me. She did nt seem to be very muchalarmed that I had read it. I suppose that my Papa is spending to-day in SaltLake City. You have been studying geography, soyou know better where that is than I do. Papa is onhis way to Portland, Oregon, where the PresbyterianGeneral Assembly meets this week. After that he isgoing to Alaska, and wont get home until the firstof July. It is a slick trip, and I wish I could havegone with him. He probably would have taken me ifit hadnt been for school. CHAPTER XVII. LAST DAYS OF SCHOOL. The true purpose of education is to cherish and unfoldthe seed of immortality already soivn within us ; to de-velop, to their fullest extent, the capacities of every hindwith which the God tuho made us has endowed us. Mrs. Jameson.

CHAPTER XVII. LAST DAYS OF SCHOOL. THE last busy days of his school life I shall letEalph describe in his own way through letterswritten to his young friends, convinced that they willprove far more interesting than any account which Icould give in other words. May 22. There has nt been anything of interest this lastweek. At school it has been work, work, work. Wepoor fellows who are unfortunate enough to be editorsof the school paper, which appears each year in June, have been rushing around like madmen, trying toarouse some interest in our work. Every fellow thinksits very nice and all that, but its the hardest workin the world to get any one to write for it. Well, bydint of urging and exhorting and scratching around,we have come out all right, in spite of Young Docs telling us that we could nt possibly do it. Next Fridayare our annual Spring Games, and the paper appearssoon after that. My Commencement speech has nt been started yet!It first has to be written. Thats the easiest part.T
