Description

O pão é o principal alimento da humanidade desde os começos da civilização. Por isso, mantêm-se ainda hoje inúmeras tradições ligadas a este alimento. Na missa católica o pão representa o corpo de Deus. Devido a isto, o pão é mais que um alimento e passou a ser um símbolo de vida que importa respeitar. Ainda hoje há o costume de beijar o pão quando por acidente este cai ao chão. A gastronomia alentejana nasce como uma forma de aproveitar o pão duro para não o deitar fora. Na Orada o forno comunitário ao produzir o pão representa a vida da comunidade. Se os tempos eram de pobreza, produzia-se pouco pão e todos sofriam. Se os tempos fossem de abundância, havia muito pão e todos beneficiavam. Por isso, havia que o proteger das forças do mal e conseguir o favor da divindade. No Norte do país há a tradição de desenhar uma cruz no pão.
