  • Dansk: Marsyas er en næsten omvendt kopi af bronzestatuetten af den hellige Sebastian, forhen i Camillo Castiglioni's samling (Planiscig, "Sammlung Castiglioni", 1923, nr. 91, 45,5 h. som mellemitaliensk, 17. årh. og med henvisning til Ciambolognas flamske efterfølgere). Figurens modellering er beslægtet med Christus på et terracottarelief af Hudflettelsen, signeret af Pieter Xavery og dateret 1667 og den knælende figur cf. tilsvarende figur på relieffet (Bruges, Gruuthusemuseum, udst. "La sculpture au siècle de Rubens", Bruxelles, 1977, nr. 267). Marsyas' hoved og hænder cf. signeret terracottafigur af samme kunstner i London, Victoria & Albert Museum (udst. "Art in Seventeenth Century, Holland", London, 1976, nr. 157). Xavery er mest kendt for sine terracottafigurer, men har dog også arbejdet i andre materialer (f.eks. elfenbensstatuetter af Adam og Eva, signerede og daterede 1671 i Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum, Leeuwenberg, "Beeldhouwkunst", 1973, nr. 326 a-b) og Marsyas-gruppen er så beslægtet med kunstnerens sikre arbejder, at den her skal tilskrives ham, cf. også den 1673 daterede terracottaskulptur, ibid., nr. 328. (Se: Olsen 1980, p. 144).
