ROYAL THAMES YACHT CLUB MATCH. THIS match, the third and concluding one of the season of this distinguished club, took place on Saturday the 28th ult. The club offered two prizes-one of £50, for third class yachts, and one of £30 for vessels of the fourth class. For the third class but one vessel was forthcoming, so the match was off. For the fourth class the following vessels entered, and all started:-Julia, 7 tons ; Flrt, S tons ; WaVe, 8 tons; Ca,nelluo, 9 tons; Violet, 10 tons; Esk, 10 tons; Silver Cloud, t10 tons; Sea Nymph. 10 tons; and Quiver, 12 tons. The course was from Erith round the light at Chapman Head and back to Erith. The start took place at 11h. 44m., witk a very light wind-so light that the contemplated distance was shortened, and the vessels were signailed to round the steamer that accompanied the match; and now ensued one of the prettiest and most extraordinary scenes recorded in the annals of yachting. The Quirer and Sea Nymph were approaching the steamer, when the Flirt, which had gone on further, bore down upon them, and they had to make room for her. Just as they reached the steamer, the Violet, which had by this time altered her course, bore right down upon all three, and a collision seemed inevitable; but, by a combination of skill and good temper on the part of all, no damage was done, and the four vessels, Violet on the inside, passed the steamer so exactly abreast that a single shot would have gone through all four masts. The Ware, Esk, and Julia had their bowsprits over the counters of the other four, and the Silver Cloud and Camellia were not fifteen seconds astern. The whole fleet thus rounded together at 3.53, saluted with tremendous cheering. They turned up Long Reach, alternately gaining and losing, and finally passed between the steamers and the buoy off Erith as follows:- a. N. . n. . a. N. Y. . The band of the Royal Artillery was on board, and played admirably throughout the day.
