Common, Quite common

[edit]

common/many vs. quite common/some: one cannot make sense of your titles. Jidanni (talk) 00:54, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysia

[edit]

Plenty of headdress in Malaysia and neighboring countries, but not on the map. Jidanni (talk) 00:54, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mali and Niger

[edit]

I'm pretty sure I would not classify Hijab wearing as "Prevalent" in Niger and Mali as in Afghanistan and Yemen, and substantially more widespread than in Senegal, Burkina, or Algeria. And more widespread in Niger and Mali than in northern Nigeria, when I know for a fact that is not the case! This image should be modified in line with presentable references (which actually compare nations). Legal controls are classifiable, but vague opinions about "commonness" is really not defensible. Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but it is a variance with reality. T L Miles (talk) 06:45, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sudan

[edit]

Sudan needs to be split in two, and we need to find out what the status is in South Sudan. V85 (talk) 19:42, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Quite"

[edit]

This image is likely rather confusing to American readers because the word "quite" is used in the British sense of the term, which is much less positive in connotation than the American use. For those unfamiliar with this distinction, see here. I propose that "quite" be replaced with "somewhat", as this seems to be the sense which it is used here. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 02:03, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Highly inaccurate map

[edit]

First of all, any country has own dress-code laws and it's hard to define what's "mandatory". From Western perspective headscarf can be mandatory in some countries, from Southern African perspective even brassiere in Western World can be seen as "mandatory" but it's surely irrelevant to hijab concept. Anyway, we can speak only about mandatory minimums so there shouldn't be "common" or "quite common" labels. Since hijab isn't only limited to scarfs, there's even more issues because in some countries don't allow short skirts, but walking in public with no headscarf is allowed. Beside definition problems, there's also another problem. In Afghanistan half of women wear headscarfs and half masks like burqas (similar to Saudi Arabia, partly headscarf and partly niqab), and Afghanistan is showed as less restrictive then Iran where masks are completely alien. Most Arab countries are shown even more liberal despite niqabs are common there (minority yes, but still common). --Orijentolog (talk) 09:34, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aceh vs other regions in Indonesia

[edit]

It's true that hijab is mandatory in Indonesia's westernmost province, Aceh, but in considerable parts of eastern Indonesia, the colour would be orange (currently meaning quite common (instead of common)). I don't see why Aceh should get special treatment in this case. If we want to specify Indonesia regionwise, then ALL regions should be taken into account.
