Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A depiction of 5 frames showing what might happen in a multi-GPU setup to illustrate the temporal artifact known as micro stuttering.

For this example, the blue areas represent GPU 0's frame buffer while the orange areas represent GPU 1's frame buffer. Each color change represents a frame buffer swap. This means, for example, GPU 1 ends Frame 1 and begins Frame 2.

A benchmark tool (such as FRAPS) may see this as 144 frames per second as there are about 12 frames in a period of 0.2 seconds. However, the user perceives less than that, as some refresh cycles depict mostly whole frame buffers from either GPU.

This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Micro stuttering over time.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
