Category:Neat ethanol-powered vehicles
Neat ethanol-powered vehicles or E100 fuel vehicles operate with an internal combustion engine built to run on pure ethanol. The most common technology was developed in Brazil in the late seventies, and neat ethanol cars were common until the early nineties. Brazilian neat ethanol cars run on 100% hydrated ethanol (E100), which contains less than 5% water.
There are also buses with modified diesel engines running on a blend of 95% ethanol and 5% ignition improver, also considered neat ethanol vehicles as this in the only fuel in the mix. This fuel blend was developed in Sweden and it is commercially known as ED95. These diesel engines use high compression to ignite the fuel instead of spark plugs.
