Asking for input before moving "No <VERB/NOUN> signs" categories to "<VERB/NOUN> prohibition signs"

@MHM55: , @LBM1948: , @E4024: any opposition to moving "No <VERB/NOUN> signs" categories to "<VERB/NOUN> prohibition signs" per this discussion with User:Fry1989​? Please feel free to ping additional users who would be relevant to a potential discussion. So far, we agree that we should strive for uniformity, and that the second formulation works well for pretty much every type of sign. For those who want to make sure signs using the "No ..." wording are categorized together, we can later subcategorize prohibition signs of a given type by inscription — I like Fry1989's format for that: "<VERB/NOUN> prohibition signs by inscription – XXXXX". —Iketsi (talk) 19:45, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

• I am neutral, in that if other users decide there is a better way, I won't oppose it. But I do feel that more complex prohibitions such as Category:Motor vehicle prohibition road signs excluding motorcycles and Category:Axle weight prohibition road signs do not fit well with the "No <VERB/NOUN> signs" format. An alternative I have considered is to include using capital letters and the word "prohibited", for example "Parking Prohibited signs", as this would convey the actual message of the sign within the category name. When you see a sign prohibiting parking, you think in your head "No Parking" or "Parking Prohibited", not "Parking prohibition" which is grammatically incorrect. However this does not conform well to Commons' standard naming rules for categories, because of the extra use of capital letters. Fry1989 ^eh? 16:23, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
  • I fully agree about the "in your head" part. My justification for the mild grammatical awkwardness of "Parking prohibition signs" is that it is a category for objects called "prohibition signs" that happen to be of the "parking" kind; "No Parking"/"Parking Prohibited"/"Thou Shalt Not Park" are examples of wording used to convey the message that is inherent to the umbrella of prohibition signs that relate to parking, aka "Parking prohibition signs".
