For works of art from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and when the author's death is unknown, the template {{PD-old-assumed}} is to be used.

This template means that, because of the art work creation date, we assume that the author died more than 70 years ago, and therefore that the work is in the public domain in all countries where copyright expires 70 years after the author's death. Example: we assume that for a work made in 1890, the author was born before 1870 and did not live more than 77 years.
