Last i asked the devs they said they didn't really care too much about deep linking to images because the bandwidth use was insignificant. Does anyone have any evidence that this has changed?

Also i don't see why server admins would wan't to play whack a mole and set specific bans when they could just block deep linking outright. In short i think that comment is probablly bullshit.Plugwash 00:52, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No there have been lately questions from people why their deep linking web sites got blocked and unless we get nothing official which indicates the opposite we keep that info. Arnomane 09:27, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Usage in other Projects[edit]

When I use a picture from the commons in wikipedia it dont say in history of the picture in the commons that it is used somewhere!? --Feodora 06:26, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well the reason is simple. The feature you want is not coded into w:MediaWiki yet and it would take quite long until the image page has been rendered in fully. However we have the "check-usage" tab on top of image pages which points to an external server providing that information (and note how long it takes until it has run through all 640 wikis of Wikimedia foundation, for details how these extra tabs were embedded into the interface see Commons:Tool integration). This feature can't be included in the image page directly as long as the database structure hasn't changed that way that these kind of information can be obtained way faster. Usage in other projects[edit]

I have uploaded a picture to commons which I want to use in Wikipedia. The problem is that the filename I have uploaded it to Image:Hotel New York.jpg is already being used by a different picture in Wikipedia. If I use the standard syntax to link to the commons photo then I get the Wikipedia version. Is there something I can add that tells it to use the commons version? --MarkS 20:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is this page up to date?[edit]

In Erik Möller's blog in June there was an announcement that inline linking in "not-Wikimedia"-MediaWiki-wikis is possible and allowed now. That seems to contradict this site. Is this feature "officially" implemented now or not? --CroMagnon (talk) 17:10, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Getty images[edit]

I have been reading and saw that as long as you emb d images from Getty editorial use images it is allowed. Does Wikipedia have any problem with it as Getty says it is permissible and free? Thank you. ~ SusanneSC SusanneSC (talk) 21:46, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
