I have two notes:

First, look at this file. I have cropped file PD-USGov but the lisence is CC? and own work? I think it should have {{Extracted from}} (or similar template) in the source field and also the author and the licanse should be from the original.

Quality degradation - Removal audio

Hi,

If you compare the current version with the oldest version of File:BORDEAUX CORONAVIRUS - 24H AVANT LE CONFINEMENT.webm. There is a significant difference in quality of the video. Higher Compression factor ? or is there an error on my side. -- Eatcha (talk) 07:22, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

well i just tried again with «Давайте снова сделаем выборы праздником!» Светлана Тихановская в Бобруйске.webm , clicked trim video, chose 05:33 to 12:05.212 , clicked preview. now 20 minutes later and it's stuck at the spinning dots and Your video is trimming...
i dont know what the problem might be. the filename containing cyrillic? this video's codec might be a bit special?... please investigate.--RZuo (talk) 09:21, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RZuo: Preview button will not be clickable if the user have not opted for any options from the Video Settings(trim/rotate/crop/remove audio), So users have to select one or more option from Video Settings and then click on "Preview button". --Gopavasanth (talk) 05:37, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Tool logos

Looking at the source, there is a logo file in /src/logo.svg, and there is also a line in src/components/Header.jsx which says const logo = "https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/57/JeremyNguyenGCI_-_Video_Cut_Tool_Logo.svg"; (which is a different logo). Is this intentional? Also, things probably shouldn't be loaded on the fly (via an URL) but could be part of the codebase itself and deployed on the same server. Shortcut mode for audio removal?

could there be a shortcut mode for audio removal? this is done quite often to get rid of copyrighted soundtrack, but the tool would keep me waiting for the preview to be finished. i dont need a preview for this simple task. can there be a special shortcut mode?

also, do i have to keep my tab open during processing? or if i could close it and come back a day later and click submit?--RZuo (talk) 09:36, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @RZuo,
On clicking "Preview" button the actual video encoding takes place in the server, In this case encoding happens to remove audio from the video. After the encoding tool displays the final output file, if user is satisfied then he can either download/upload back to commons.

@Gopavasanth: between each try i refreshed the page to make sure they dont interfere.
  1. i first tried using it without logging in. after previewing the video, i cannot upload it, so i did the login process without leaving or refreshing the page, but it after logging in automatically refreshed the page and i had to redo the edit. so, can it please warn users to log in first?
  2. 2nd try: error 504 and back to start of "video settings" step.
  3. 3rd try: File:DJI Mavic Pro TEST - 2k, 30fps, ND8 edited 0.webm. i chose to overwrite?!! also i'm not sure about video quality because on my shitty computer they all look the same, but you may want to check. RZuo (talk) 11:03, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @RZuo, tool provides you couple of options to select, one is to upload as a new video and other is to overwrite the existing video, You might need to select appropriate option.   1. put https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DJI_Mavic_Pro_TEST_-_2k,_30fps,_ND8.webm in the tool
  2. select remove audio
  3. select overwrite
  4. select upload to commons.

Status code 504 error

Every time I try using this, it works up until the time I click on "preview". A status bar runs for a while and then I inevitably get a "request failed with status code 504." Any idea what this means or how I can fix it? IronGargoyle (talk) 17:20, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @IronGargoyle, I've tested to edit a video a few mins back and the tool works pretty fine. I'm very sorry to hear that tool not working for you, Can you please help us understand what's going wrong on sharing the steps to reproduce the issue by sharing the video link and the options (trim duration/crop/rotate..) you are trying to edit video on commons?
