Possible objection to change in markup validation service from “Markup Validation Service (W3C Markup Validator)” to “Validator.nu”. Undo revision?

[edit]

During the following revision of @Perhelion:

the button which validates the markup of the uploads was changed from

"W3C Validition"–Validition Check of this file (which links to http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Filepath/Test.svg&doctype=SVG+1.1&ss=1#source)

to

"W3C Validition"–Validition Check of this file (which links to https://validator.nu/?doc=https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Filepath/Test.svg&showsource=1#source)

Could the user @Perhelion: please motivate that choice? I do not support this change, because, for example, that validator service “Validator.nu” does not check for XML 1.0 validity constraints. That is, DTD validation is not performed. This can create annoying warnings. Observe, for instance, the following file:

If one checks the upload using the canonical “Markup Validation Service (W3C Markup Validator”) using the Markup Validation Service (W3C Markup Validator), then one receives no warnings at all ("Result: Passed").

If one checks the same file using the Validator.nu service), then one receives the following warning:

Warning: skipping entity: [dtd]

At line 2, column 98

/DTD/svg11.dtd">↩↩<svg id="SVG

Answered here. That DTD validation doesn't matter for us, because our librSVG doesn't recognize DTD and it is also not needed nor really recommended for SVG, s. Help:SVG#Validation -- User: Perhelion 07:13, 12 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
