Doesn't seem to "thank" the uploader?

[edit]

I enabled this gadget primarily because I wanted to be able to thank people when I added one of their images to a Wikipedia article (I am not interested in having a collection of favourite photos as such). However, when I asked one of them if they had seen my thanks, they said "no" and after double-checking for it, they still could not find anything any sign that I had thanked them. So I just wonder if this feature is actually implemented/working. Thanks Kerry Raymond (talk) 19:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Kerry Raymond: I know it's an ancient question, but for any future users who may be in a similar quandary, one can search the Thanks Log thusly. Storkk (talk) 16:56, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bug?

[edit]

Hi User:Dschwen and all, i have problems to "fave" something, since a few weeks, intermittently. "Fave" is unresponsive (doesn't work when i click) and the gadget seems to interfere with HotCat (and more) which disappeared. Can someone confirm? Any ideas what went wrong? --Atlasowa (talk) 16:44, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Atlasowa: I cannot reproduce this. Works for me and does not interfere with hotcat. Can you open the developer tools of your webbrowser and check if there are any errors showing up in the console? --Dschwen (talk) 19:37, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Exception thrown by ext.gadget.Favorites" load.php:150 "NS_ERROR_DOM_QUOTA_REACHED: Persistent storage maximum size reached" DOMException [NS_ERROR_DOM_QUOTA_REACHED: "Persistent storage maximum size reached" code: 1014 etc. I really like the "fave"-gadget, it would be a big loss. :-( --Atlasowa (talk) 20:34, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Aha! You must have been using it quite a bit! I'll have to look into this. The problem is that I'm using localStorage to cache a list of "faved" images in your browser (to avoid loading it over and over again). Your list seems to be getting larger than the storage limits! I didn't think anyone would get there. --Dschwen (talk) 01:16, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, there are not that many images on that list. I suspect some other gadget is using up the storage quota for commons in your browser's localStorage. --Dschwen (talk) 01:18, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, haven't identified the culprit yet. But thank you for all hints :-) --Atlasowa (talk) 16:30, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi, I have recently not been able to add files to the gallery with this tool any more. They still show as "faved" on the file page, but no change occurs on Special:MyPage/Favorites. The information must be stored somewhere though, as the note on the file page persists. Is there any way I can at least still access the list of files manually? — Julian H. 20:43, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I found the solution to this problem myself. If anyone else has that problem: Commons delinker removed some files from the gallery, apparently making it impossible for the tool to further populate it. Specifically, the gallery contained lines starting with a "|" character. I hope this helps if anyone has this problem in the future. — Julian H. 15:16, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Julian, sorry, I completely missed this message. Let me take a look at the gadget and try to make it a bit more robust. --Dschwen (talk) 15:58, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, this change fixes the problem you described (see here for example). --Dschwen (talk) 16:15, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Dschwen: No worries, my bad for not highlighting you. Thanks a lot for the fix! — Julian H. 16:35, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Newly discovered Bug

[edit]

All links to the entire page have become "Fave" or "Unfave", only after the refresh is normal --Thyj (talk) 15:03, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging Dschwen. See this too. Jee 11:37, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I saw this post. I cannot reproduce it though. How do you trigger this? --Dschwen (talk) 22:36, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on Windows 10 with Chrome version 58.0.3029.110 (64-bit). When I open a file page, all links are displaying "fave" and no image preview. But all links are working if clicked. When I disabled the "fave" gadget in preferences, everything is fine. Jee 03:59, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It seems no issues after Chrome is updated to Version 59.0.3071.104 Jee 04:37, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

does not show up in a category menu

[edit]

I have this Favorites menu entry only with single images, not with Categories or galleries. So to find the link to my Favorites-page (saw the url now for the first time), I have to open an arbitrary image first and then load the Favorites-page. Can the link to the Favorites-page be included in the menu independent of namespace? best --Herzi Pinki (talk) 13:37, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
