[edit]

This page is factually incorrect. Perhaps there was recently a “Nominate for deletion” link, but I don’t see it now.

Should we delete this page, or is it missing some detail that should explain why I don’t see the link? —Danorton (talk) 15:29, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see "Nominate for deletion". But since the "deletion" helper is a javascript based, gadget (with really good usability) it is not displayed if you have JavaScript disabled for Commons. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 00:31, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It’s working today, although I did try “?action=purge” yesterday with no success. I’ll write it off to a system “glitch”, I guess. —Danorton (talk) 17:13, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2019 : it still doesn't show. Yes I have ajax-thingie activated. So I'm most ungracefully plonking the case here because the "deletion" process is even more so disgracefully complicated. One shouldn't have to use cryptic coding, nor to go somewhere else godknowswhere to put another cryptic code, that's asking too much. There is not even a link to where we can go to put this sort of thing when the "nominate for deletion" is not there (or if that link is there, what it's meant for is not clear enough/drowned among the rest; anyway I've tried all the links in the page and none looks like the right thing). Honestly, it's not right to impose that on normal people (= non-technocrats people) unless you want to make up another sect or something.
This is about deleting Category:Caves of Tuc d'Audoubert, the whole (small) content of which I've moved to Category:Cave of Tuc d'Audoubert, because there's only one cave of such name (the generic name for the caves of that vicinity is "grottes du Volp"). My apologies to the sweet souls that will read this. Thanks for your understanding, folks. Pueblopassingby (talk) 10:35, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bug report

[edit]

When using the Nominate for deletion toolbox link, the javascript follows the user preference setting "Editing -> Mark all edits minor by default". As deletion nominations are never minor edits, the javascript should probably explicitly uncheck "This is a minor edit" when nominating. Is this something to bring up at bugzilla? How does all the commons-specific javascript get developed? Storkk (talk) 16:29, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is developed by volunteers like Lupo and me. Please do not forward this to bugzilla as they can't change it. The place to report issues to is usually the JavaScript's talk page. As this is a gadget, you find the appropriate page at Special:Gadgets. In this case, it is MediaWiki talk:Gadget-AjaxQuickDelete.js. I would be pleased if you could raise the issue there so other users may weight-in. -- Rillke(q?) 19:44, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks, Rillke. Storkk (talk) 09:11, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I feel this should be documented somewhere (not the bug report, but where to properly report it)... that it's linked to from zero help pages, is not helpful. Storkk (talk) 09:14, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please undo protection

[edit]

@Yann: Otherwise the demo will not work for non-autoconfirmed users. Perhaps edit MediaWiki:Guidedtour-tour-nominatefordeletion.js to include a hint to please not nominate the current page for deletion or set up an AbuseFilter. Alternatively, abort the guided tour if the user is not autoconfirmed. -- Rillke(q?) 22:13, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm, I've requested the semiprotection of the page. So, I think ts better to unprotect the page and add this page to the AbuseFilter to non-confirmed users. --Amitie 10g (talk) 23:59, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done: Unprotected. Yann (talk) 10:59, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Nominate for deletion" for Categories

[edit]

The "Nominate for deletion" toolbox link does not appear on Category: pages. This would greatly simplify the removing of useless categories including misspellings, meaningless names, etc. Also, there is a lot of information/documentation about deleting files but not categories.User-duck (talk) 01:38, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@User-duck: There should be a link "Nominate category for discussion" instead, as COM:CFD is the normal way for this kind of thing. If the link doesn't show up, you might want to activate the "AjaxQuickDelete" Gadget in your preferences. --El Grafo (talk) 08:30, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @El Grafo: , thanks for your answer to User-duck. So what you are saying is, there is no "Nominate for deletion" button/tab/whatever ? I just added a comment on that here above (in "Link doesn’t actually exist", 2010). Ok, I had a look at that COM:CFD page. I just wasted nearly 3 hrs now trying to delete/have deleted a misnamed category. I have my health to consider. So there's no way I'm gonna waste more time doing something I can't stand by starting a needless discussion that shouldn't be so as to suppress something needless that shouldn't be either. Craziness is not only contagious but also very unhealthy - at least that sort of craziness most definitely is. And it's damn scary. I'm out of this, fk the empty categ, this is totally crazy. Best to you, have a good day and thanks for your efforts. This has just worn mine out. Pueblopassingby (talk) 10:51, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pueblopassingby: Sorry to hear that. Our documentation for things like this is notoriously bad, but most regulars (including me) are probably so used to it that they don't see that any more. So … thanks for spelling it out for us! I can't fix it myself (the page is protected), but I'll make a proposal for re-wording the relevant section below. --El Grafo (talk) 14:32, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Bless you @El Grafo: . Or whatever you'd like to be done to you. U r a star. Thank you for keeping an eye on this page, thank you for your patience, thank you for your comprehension, thank you for your respect of my exhaustion, and thank you indeed for trying to suppress that thing : it's a hanging process, which means it makes people feel like they should hang themselves - or someone else ? ;D whatever. Something's got to go for sure. Best of luck for that, and best continuation to you. (and isn't it a good thing that you didn't actually hear me in the last 1/2h of these 3 hours ^,^ ) Pueblopassingby (talk) 15:03, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
sorry with the " @ " call, it's not what I mean but I don't know how to get a nicer call/greeting so am just copying yours. Please imagine instead a big cake/glass of preferred drink/etc.

Fix wording

[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

The help page says:

On every content page's toolbox, which is part of the sidebar and may have to be uncollapsed, a link named "Nominate for deletion" is provided.

That is incorrect as a) on some pages the link will not appear (e.g. Help:Nominate for deletion itself) and b) on Category pages the text says Nominate category for discussion for COM:CFD. As this evidently can be horribly confusing for non-regulars (see above), I propose to change the text to something like:

On most content pages, a link named "Nominate for deletion" is provided in the page's toolbox (which is part of the sidebar and may have to be uncollapsed). Note that for Category pages the process is slightly different and that the link is named "Nominate category for discussion" instead. On pages you are not allowed to edit (like this one), the link will not appear at all.

--El Grafo (talk) 14:32, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, due to the page being protected again, the tutorial does not work. Suggest to either unprotect the page again or remove the now useless tutorial. --El Grafo (talk) 14:37, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done I also decided to remove the protection on this page to allow the interactive tutorial to work again. I've watchlisted the page and if the problems resume I'll reprotect it. Something that has a tutorial for newer users probably shouldn't be indef'ed anyways. --Majora (talk) 23:22, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More language to fix

[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

Two grammar issues at the bottom of the page:

After proceeding, your Internet browser will automatically:

  • Edit the content or file description page, adding {{Delete}}
  • Creatinge a deletion request subpage
  • Adding {{Idw}} to the content creator's talk page
  • List your request on the deletion requests' list of the day
