Question

[edit]

How is this template different than {{On Wikipedia}}? --Skeezix1000 (talk) 16:27, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Skeezix1000: Hi, Skeezix1000. The purposes are different:
  • {{On Wikipedia}} tag provides a selected set of Wikipedia articles without priority
(similar to inter wikilinks provided by WikiData)
  • {{Mainw}} is a tag to indicate specific dependency to a specific language version of article, and .
When making a new category on Wikimedia Commons, often the categorizations (a set of categories) might heavily rely on a specific language version of Wikipedia article, due to:
  1. historical, cultural dependency to a specific language, lying under a notion represented by that category,
  2. a specific usage of ambiguous term,
  3. reliabilities of the contents of specific article (both categorization and description),
  4. or simply, the shortage of time of editor  (including the lack of ability to read all language version of articles ... it's me!)
Additionally, {{Mainw}} has the significances of existence itself, as following:
  1. convenience for workflow: enabling the smooth continuation of related tasks by an explicit dependency declaration.
(When creating a new category based on a specific article, if that specific article was clarified using {{Mainw}} at first, the following tasks depend on that article (categorization and addition of description) and the other tasks related to that article (addition of {{On Wikipedia}} and registration to WikiData) will be smoothly continued even if a long time was elapsed during each tasks)
  2. combinatorial usage with {{See also w}}
    • {{Mainw}} navigate the readers to a primary or generic article, and
    • {{See also w}} navigate the readers to the set of secondary articles on
sub-notions, related notions, or relatively important other language versions.
In my opinion, {{Mainw}} should be coexisted with more neutral {{On Wikipedia}} tag. --Clusternote (talk) 22:02, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion?

[edit]

Is this template now deprecated and to be deleted? I see a 'bot run that's auto-removing it. [1] Andy Dingley (talk) 01:04, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would support that. --Arnd 🇺🇦 (talk) 17:45, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
