Backgrounds[edit]

For several decades, most likely just from the date the People's Republic of China had founded, 1 January 1949, peoples were, and are still, asking (and probably original research-like answering) questions in regard to the copyright status of RENMINBI (currency symbol ¥, ISO 4217 code CNY).

The People's Bank of China, hereafter the PBC, is assumed for many years, probably some decades recently, by de jure the copyright holder of Renminbi series, as they have the right to release Renminbi copies to every economical banks for deposit, invests, developments, and so on... There were some claims that CBPMC might also be one of holders, but there's no strong evidence to identify this claim, as CBPMC is just the printer of Renminbi, not releaser, and hence they don't have publishing rights in any galances, under any circumstances.

Per {{PD-PRC}}, works of legal-persons are copyrighted for 50 years since the first publication (if not published, the completion date of creation), after that they are entering public domain in PRC, as for photographs (of them, sure), they are likely copyrighted for 50 years pma, unless already entered public domain before 1 January 2021.

However as I'm surprised in the recent months, that for not more than two years ago, there were some users claim these panoramas that Renminbi should always be public domain currencies regareless of the periods above:

  • Case 1: Management Measures for the Use of RMB Patterns lists only usage limits on the "administrative laws", such limits are non-copyright restrictions and {{Currency}} template already warned the remote users on them, such limits are very like limits provided by trademark law where it prohibits trademark registration of national flags, either of the PRC, or foreign flags;
  • Case 2 (same linked as case 1): Renminbi patterns are listed within the Public Notice of the People's Bank of China No.2019(4) published by their Currency Gold and Silver Bureau, if we consider the Public Notice are public domain, then such currency patterns are also public domain[citation needed].
  • Case 3: Chinese government defined currency-related criminals in 1979, but only defined copyrights in 1991 (lol, so anything 1949-1991 in PRC are totally public domain?)

When should they enter public domain?[edit]

As there are still lack of evidences on why they are always public domain regareless of periods of publications, I assume:
