Does this image DR need 1 week? Even the uploader agreed that the image should be deleted after Turelio showed that the image was a flickrwash. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:52, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Denis. I semi-protected your talk page because of the Latuff-related vandalism; Herby then cleaned it. See also Commons:Administrators noticeboard#Gas the Germans. (Talk · contribs). Jastrow (Λέγετε) 11:34, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Battle of Ayta ash-Sha'b

You have removed a map I've created for the article on the Battle of Ayta ash-Shab. See Talk:Battle of Ayta ash-Shab/Archives/2012/February#Copyright_violation.3F_2. You claim that the original map is from Google Earth while it is in fact from Wikimapia. But I don't know much about copyright issues. I don't know if your mistake changes anything. If it does, please return my image. If it does not are you aware of any map which is allowed to use in Wikipedia.

Panoramio Review bot?

With 700 images, perhaps a panoramio review bot should be created. I don't know where this backlog suddenly appeared. No one person can tackle it all and I work on weekdays. My apologies, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:38, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Anon uploads hi resolution images of world famous artist. Another anon [1] tags one of them. You revert and don't even bother to look at anon1's uploads? What's wrong with you? Why are you an administrator? --CarburedeTungstène (talk) 04:38, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

You will notice that the image was then tagged, by Denniss, as lacking permission, meaning it will be deleted in 7 days. This is fairly standard - you give the person a few days to give some justification. -mattbuck (Talk) 05:43, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
to repeat;"and don't even bother to look at anon1's uploads". This is the only time I'm going to repeate anything for you, mattbuck. If you can't read and comprehend a simple paragraph then I won't waste any more time on you.
And what if this is an honest submission, and the person doing so really does have the go-ahead? Don't you think as an administrator you should be bending over backwards to help them? --CarburedeTungstène (talk) 06:12, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Just tagging it with {{copyvio}} without a link to the source will always see an Admin decline it. It is up to the person adding the {{Copyvio}} tag to prove that it's indeed a copyright violation, what Denniss did by removing your tagging and tagging it as {{No permission since}} was the correct thing to do. Next time if you don't have a source, use the DR process and argue the reason why it fails Commons policies and/or why it should be deleted. Bidgee (talk) 09:43, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, Bidgee, I can't do any of that since I've been blocked for 'harassment' by Russavia. The entire Commons admin staff should be replaced for the good of the project. --46.166.163.163 12:47, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
What's the process for reporting block evasion here? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots17:46, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
It's been suggested that I use COM:AN or COM:AN/U. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots13:00, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
The obvious sock from above (imagin who's the master) is already blocked. It's not really possible to block the vandalizing Anti-Latuff troll(s) due to abusing proxies and other measures to mask their identity. AN/U should be the correct place for reporting others. --Denniss (talk) 16:25, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

So explain it to me...

...because all the Greek FOP regulation states is "images of works of architecture, works of the fine arts, photographs, and works of the applied arts is allowed for works permanently situated in a public place" can't necessarily be licensed properly on Commons. When I try to read the Greek law verbatim, I get a dead link. And up top it states, "If the country the image is taken in does not have these provisions, or only allows them for non-commercial purposes, they cannot be licensed under a license compatible with our Licensing policy and must be deleted. Please file requests for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests."

So tell me how I'm "mis-using Commons to prove a point" when I'm trying to follow the letter of the guideline and how "{{NoFoP-Greece}} would have been more than enough as a warning" reconciles with "please file requests for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests." -- Veggies (talk) 02:28, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Any FOP Latvian violations here

Dear Dennis,

Here are 5 panoramio images below. If you see any which you think have clear FOP violations in Latvia, a country with no FOP, feel free to file a mass DR on those with problems. I am not very experienced with the intricacies of FOP--when no dates are given.

Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:59, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

File:Next to Talsi Regional Museum.jpg might have a FoP issue but I doubt a walking woman is copyrightable. --Denniss (talk) 02:32, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Images with watermarks

Hi, why did you remove this category from several images? The Commons policy says images should not have captions and watermarks. FunkMonk (talk) 17:20, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Signature in art is not a watermark, also name of the species is hardly a watermark. --Denniss (talk) 17:21, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Names of animals are captions, and should not be in the image itself. FunkMonk (talk) 17:24, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

3 images on Panoramio

The panoramio Backlog is still high at 350+ images but a bit better than 700+ images. You can mark some images if you wish. But please decide if these 3 images are FOP violations. Sadly, I have to work on Saturday so I can mark very few images. The first image may be a problem as it has a clear date.

PS: I did file one DR here 2 days ago. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:30, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

No real FoP issue in the three images. What's so special in the church tower that may be worth receiving a protection? --Denniss (talk) 06:45, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
  •  Comment: I thought the rule was that in countries without FOP, Commons cannot use buildings or sculptures unless the original artist or achitect has been deceased for at least 50 or 70 years. (a general rule). Is that a bit wrong? Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:21, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
If the building/sculpture could be considered creative artwork then yes. If, for example, the sculpture is merely a generic reproduction of human/animals that's hardly protectable unless arranged in some special creative way. Even a new building is hardly protectable if design is based on traditional (retro) architecture. --Denniss (talk) 20:24, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Dear Admin Denniss,

If you think the image in this DR above can be kept, please vote to keep it and give one reason why. I don't have enough experience here sadly. Thank You. You can even mark the image if you wish.

As for this image: File:Mana Village.jpg it may be own work as the uploader has only 3 images here and the metadata seem to be similiar in all of them but I cannot be sure. Feel free to deal with it as you please. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:35, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Old DR question

Hi Denniss. In going thru old DRs, I found a strange one in Commons:Deletion requests/2012/12/09. The second DR on the list - Commons:Deletion requests/File:Belfius.svg- by User:Kwasura is followed by a bunch of hidden malformed/empty DRs by the same user that are showing as text at the bottom of the Belfius discussion on Commons:Deletion requests/2012/12/09:

I wasn't sure how to deal with these? Thanks for your time. INeverCry 21:12, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

invalid/malformed DR deleted and removed from that page. --Denniss (talk) 02:07, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Denniss. That's what I had thought of doing, but I wanted to make sure it was the right way to go. INeverCry 02:15, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Tour de France

Denniss, You gave me, Dominotheorie (yes I'am dutch), a warning for uploading a picture that violates copyright. I made the picture, and I am the owner of the copyright. I cannot give Commons a further 'permission', therefore I am asking you for advice and an explanation why you gave me a warning. Dominotheorie (talk) 18:12, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

You also uploaded File:Default.jpeg and File:Jacques Chaplier.jpg and claimed own work over them, right? It would be great if we could keep your third upload, quite a good photo (even a quality image IMHO), but we need something that explains why this is not simply stolen from somewhere. -- Rillke(q?) 12:27, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Greek Bridges

I have renominated a variety of Greek bridges for deletion, including File:Γέφυρα Ρίου Αντιρίου από τη Μεριά της Πελοποννήσου.jpg. You had closed all of these on the same day that they were opened.

Policy is:

"In general, requests can be closed by an administrator after seven days. Deletion requests for obvious copyright violations can be closed earlier."

While we will also go farther than the rule allows for other completely obvious cases, we agreed several years ago that FOP cases were never speedies because there are too many factors that come into them and they are often controversial, primarily because many of our editors do not understand the breadth of created works that have a copyright. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:41, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

These were speedy closed because of de minimis applies to those and also these were mass nominations of images from certain categories without looking at the images first. --Denniss (talk) 17:26, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Whether or not de minimis applies is a very subjective matter and can never be a reason for a speedy close. I, for one, don't think DM applies to any of these. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 16:30, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

I asked User:Sven Manguard on his talkpage about all of the images you recently deleted and my thoughts that there should be some administrator involvement with the editor for this obvious issue. (see User talk:Sven Manguard#Obvious Copyright) since you've actually deleted them all, maybe you might could point me in the right direction? Thanks -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 02:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

And... nevermind! You are so quick and awesome! (just saw [2]) Thanks for everything :) -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 02:58, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Please do not swing the NoFoP/copyvio hammer if there's nothing copyrightable in a file. Thanks. --Denniss (talk) 15:27, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Why ? File:Martyrs Lane, Baku.jpg obviously abuses Commons:Freedom of panorama#Azerbaijan. Thank you. Takabeg (talk) 15:37, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Probably you confuse this image with other one. Did you undelete File:Martyrs Lane, Baku.jpg ? An user mentioned to File:Pochetniy karaul.JPG. This issue (article 20 of the Azerbaijan Copyright Law) have to be discuss and transferred to Commons:Freedom of panorama. But as to File:Martyrs Lane, Baku.jpg, it's very clear case. Takabeg (talk) 15:43, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
There's nothing copyrightable in this image neither by uniqe design or new architecture thus no deletion. There has to be something protectable in an image to qualify for nofop deletion. --Denniss (talk) 15:46, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

This subtemplate is part of a widely used template and thus eligible of at least some protection, main, layout and english language version should always have full protection as changes there affect the majority of inclusions. Doc and lang subtemplates may get user input thus semi-protected. --Denniss (talk) 21:20, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello my friend! Thank you very much for locking my file (File:Countries_by_most_used_web_browser.svg). That trollman was annoying me always. He did not understand that the file was to be updated once per month. --Peeperman (talk) 20:27, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Alright. Let's summarize it. I'm a graphic expert. I made edits on svg which properly indicated European microstates. User Ty_Rezac reverted them without giving a reason. I left messages to his talk page regarding that but he did not bother to respond either. He is in constant rule violations and never bothering to respond or write reasons for his edits. I have lost my faith in wikipedia because for the last 2 years, wikipedia started to look like a zoo, due to mismanagement, sorry but it's the truth. (p.s. He now left a message to my talk page (dunno why he is not writing here) that I broke the rules of image uploader. Wow that's something new. So we should obey the rules of image uploader, and wikipedia and wikimedia commons are not collaborative projects?--Free ottoman (talk) 20:43, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
By the way, I'm almost sure that Peeperman and Ty Ryzac are same person, or close friends using eachother for meatsockpuppetry.--Free ottoman (talk) 20:48, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Would you mind if you tell as what is your problem? You were the one who was vandalizing my file and were doing what ever you like. Who you think you are? The last time I told you to make your own file if you want daily update. And your answer was a threat that you will inform the Administration, that I make changes on MY FILE. That is ridiculous!--Peeperman (talk) 21:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

You have no clue about wikipedia and wikimedia.

1) You have broken the 3R rule (3-revert rule. Go read what it is about)
2) You are reverting my contributions without citing a reason
3) You are breaking the "Wikipedia is not a news agency rule" (You forbid editing other than once a month)
4) You are breaking the "Wikipedia is a collaborative project" rule. You have "donated" the file to Wikimedia commons. ANYONE can edit it with an appropriate reason given. And If I follow your suggestion, and make the duplicate file, and upload it, it would be subject to deletion.
5) You are using meat-sockpuppetry (Peeperman) to continue your edit war.
6) You are not debating the issue on your talk page.
7) You are not debating the issue on talk page of the article.
8) And here, you are cursing, writing insults,....

..

All you are saying is that wikipedia is your personal website and others may not contribute anything. I hope the mods wake up and do something about this.--Free ottoman (talk) 23:11, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Also I promise to keep the number as small as possible. Thanks

Why did you deleted the picture Alessandro_Mannarino.jpg?

I am the official wedesigner Mannarino and the photo was given to me with all the rights from the photographer of his music label. He does not want rights and want the picture to be of free use what is the problem? Please let me know how to proceed ...

Please visit COM:OTRS and follow the procedures to send a usage permission. Please leave a comment here once you sent the permission mail and I'll undelete the image and tag it accordingly as awaiting OTRS permission. --Denniss (talk) 16:20, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Is it really the process on Commons to delete images without informing the uploader or sending them to a deletion discussion? And why is the permission given here [6] not sufficient? " Permission is granted to copy a photo for use in a publication along with the credit line indicated." Rmhermen (talk) 19:20, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Obviously my experience over the last few years has been almost exclusively on Wikipedia and not Wikimedia. I was unaware that copyright violations were ok and not an issue over on Wikimedia. So for clarification, unlike on Wikipedia, I am able to upload any image I want, regardless of copyright status, so long as I add a tag saying I own it or whoever owns it has released it under an appropriate license? Obviously copyright law is the same, but I am wondering if Wikimedia is really that unconcerned with the copyright status of files uploaded here? I don't check Wikimedia unless I have a reason to, so any response would be much more quickly seen by myself and responded to on my Wikipedia talk page rather than on here. I look forward to your enlightenment on the issue. -Aaron Booth (talk) 03:41, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Please file a deletion request for a file if you believe it's not own work of the uploader, just tagging files as no permission without any reason is not the way to go. --Denniss (talk) 12:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
"Own work" is very misunderstood and greatly abused by many uploaders to Wikimedia Commons. There is resistance to reduce this problem at the point of upload because some believe we should be welcoming and make it as easy as possible to upload files with as few roadblocks and as little instruction as possible... because many uploaders don't really care about the rules. That view also suggests that once all these improperly attributed files are uploaded, it is up to other editors to clean up the mess... and those who may not wish to are simply lazy. (Personally I think this view is irresponsible and Commons should be more than just a popular site to upload stuff.) That said, it's up to every uploader to respect copyrights and follow Commons:Licensing. – JBarta (talk) 02:36, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Why did you delete it from Wikipedia commons? Then I cannot see it elsewhere. I want to see the picture, please if you still have it or saved it on you're computer. Also do you know what it depicted? (Like a statue, a coin engraving of a person's face on it, ect.) Thanks! Also, if you can bring it back from the deletion log, that would be great, and sending me Manisarus.png photo, too. Thanks again in advance!~~Joe Benson.

Video

UserAlf5435334777 Hello Denniss how to upload video wikipedia --Alf5435334777 (talk) 14:45, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

De728631 (talk) 12:52, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
P.S. De728631 (talk) 13:19, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Mass Removal from Richard Crossley Images

Hello Denniss,

You have removed all of the uploads of Richard Crossley's images from Wikicommons. I was hoping to talk through why this happened as well as preventing it from happening again. I work at Richard Crossley's publisher (Princeton University Press), and he has given us permission to do this as well as encouraging it. This is part of Commons Attribution 3.0 clearance. What can I do to clear this up and to reinstate these photos? Also, what can I do to prevent this from happening again?

File:Painted bunting from The Crossley ID Guide Eastern Birds.jpg, File:Painted bunting from The Crossley ID Guide Eastern Birds.jpg

Please read COM:OTRS and follow the instructions to send a usage permission for these files. But it may take several days/weeks to process your mail(s) as they have a huge backlog to work through. Once accepted these images will be undeleted. --Denniss (talk) 17:51, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

I sent them an email and had the author send a follow up email all within the last week. I think your removal was hasty considering the circumstances. But, if that's your decision, that's your decision. It's tough to be any more transparent in our wish to seek clearance. Obviously, we aren't breaking copyright. Thanks again.

Deletion of Pictures from Banton, Romblon page

Hi Denniss. This is in response to your deletion of two photos I own in the Banton, Romblon Wiki page, namely File:Banton aerial.jpg, and File:Tambak Beach, Banton, Romblon.JPG. You cited copyright violation as the reason for deletion. However, I did present information of ownership of these pictures. File:Banton aerial.jpg was shot last April 15, 2013 using my Kodak EasyShare M520 camera while aboard a Cebu Pacific flight from Tagbilaran, Bohol, going to Manila. File:Tambak Beach, Banton, Romblon.JPG. was shot on March 21, 2009, while I was vacationing in Banton, which is my hometown. I also posted the same photo in my blog, http://bantonisland.blogspot.com. Regarding File:RepSandyCrawford.JPG

Hello Denniss. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean about not having enough information. The licensing is public domain with proof having been e-mailed to Wikipedia by me 22 April 2013. The official photographer for the Missouri House of Representatives, Mr. Tim Bommel, sent an e-mail to me stating that all photos from the House's official website (the source of my photo) are released into the Pubic Domain and free to use. Per the advice of Commons Administrator User talk:Jmabel, who indicated that he felt a single 'blanket" coverage like Mr. Bommel's would be sufficient for all photos from that website used and an individual e-mail would not be needed for each photo. That's why I gave it the OTRS licensing. If there is a better, easier, way to do this please let me know. The photos (I've uploaded a few others of Missouri Hose of Represetative members), as I said, are public domain. Much thanks! Sector001 (talk) 00:56, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Please, help

Why User:Jahoe nominated for deletion all my ebay images? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and many others is OKAY for Commons policy requires for such images.--Alrofficial (talk) 06:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Publicity Photos (star headshots) older publicity stills have usually not been copyrighted and since they have been disseminated to the public, they are generally considered public domain and therefore there is no necessity to clear them with the studio that produced them (if you can even determine who did). Newer publicity stills shot for a specific film or television program may contain a copyright - if they do you are required to clear them with the owner of the copyright, usually the film or television company that produced the program. --Alrofficial (talk) 06:25, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

Decision of Deletion Request

Hi, Denniss, could you please elaborate on the reasoning underlying your decision of Commons:Deletion requests/File:Wolf Hogekamp 2010-1.jpg? Specifically, I would like to know if it is based on a) the assumption that due to the public performance, the subject can be assumed to have consented with the publication of the photograph on Wikimedia Commons in an implied manner, or if it is based on b) the assumption that due to the public performance the photograph can be used on Wikimedia Commons following section 23(1) no. 1 of the KUG, according to which "the publication of pictures portraying an aspect of contemporary society are exempted from the obligation to obtain the consent of the person concerned within the meaning of section 22 of the KUG." Thank you in advance, — Pajz (talk) 00:23, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Dear Denniss, I would like to follow up on my question from May 13. Regardless of whether or not you are planning to respond, I would appreciate a short note saying so, so I can move things forward. Thanks in advance, — Pajz (talk) 12:55, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
If you don't want someone to take photos of your public performance you should choose a different job. Situation is different if the subject was photographed in a private atmosphere and obviously not posing for it. It's again different if the subject is clearly posing for the image. --Denniss (talk) 13:00, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

File:Pz IV turret zoomed.jpg must be the Ausführung J version

File:Pz IV turret zoomed.jpg must be the Ausführung J version because it has no side view port for the driver (both this and the radio operator's side view port were removed in the J version).Regards. - SuperTank17 (talk) 11:38, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

May also be a very late production Ausf. H. Unless someone comes up with a chassis number that's impossible to verify so we have to rely on information we have. --Denniss (talk) 12:05, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
The chassis number of the tank in question is 84583 while the turret number is 85573 (Source)
Also How do you know that the tank on this picture (File:PzKpfw IV Ausf F2 (SdKfz 161) (6083331830).jpg) was used in Africa? Because of the paint job? That paint job could have been easily applied at a later date. You could even paint a Tiger II in Africa Corps paint and call it an Africa Corps tank. ;) Regards. - SuperTank17 (talk) 12:30, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
84583 is an Ausf.H built by Krupp Grusonwerk (no Ausf. J built there), the lowest known J chassis number is 86394 by Vomag.. For the other tank, museum site states it was used in Africa and disabled by the side penetration thus it can't be a J. It has always been a problem to identify a tank from exterior markings as you never know the modifications at unit level, during factory overhauls or even wartime/post-war mods by "new" owners. --Denniss (talk) 12:39, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Also the Panzer IV in Latrun has to be the J version because of the lack of the aforementioned view ports. Also this source identifies it as the J version. The same applies for the Panzer Iv in Thun.
Regards. - SuperTank17 (talk) 12:40, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
Also about the El Goloso Panzer IV: I was looking at the wrong tank info when I told that chassis and turret number. The aforemoentioned source list the El Goloso tank's chassis number as 84 632 and turret number as 85 596. Regards. - SuperTank17 (talk) 12:45, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
As said above, do not try to identify them purely on exterior markings, especially the heavily modified variants captured by Israel. Museums are not perfect but they often have reliable information about the subversion. And I know this site and the offered PDF - great info but not always perfect; especially on those without known chassis number.--Denniss (talk) 12:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
File:Brachiosaurus model from the British Museum.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I made a mistake uploading the file not referring to the number of autorization.

I'm trying uploading the file again but wikimwdia doesn't allow me to do it. How can I do now?

Lenovo

I noticed that you deleted pretty much every image I uploaded relevant to Lenovo. I took that fthose images from mutiple feeds on Flickr. All of those feeds appear to be legitimate and some are run by Lenovo. Intermittentgardener (talk)

Silver Oak and Twomey

Hi, you've tagged all of my images. I've sent off the OTRS request and form and even had a reply from the commons asking me to provide a link. I did so. I've heard nothing since. Please sort it out asap, tagging them for deletion is unacceptable.Blofeld Dr. (talk) 20:51, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

The Pyeongchang logo which you deleted has been recreated. Please have a look but I stand by my position that this is a copyrighted olympic logo and this has nothing to do on Commons. And that this can only mean trouble between the IOC and the Foundation, see previous example of the Sochi logp. Thanks for your previous decision. Hektor (talk) 21:13, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi—are there any reasons why you removed the got.wikipedia logo from Wikipedia/2.0/worksheet? I was afraid that the wiki might have been closed, but as far as I see, it wasn't… odder (talk) 10:43, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for the notice on my talkpage. Do you know when it will be back? Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 15:59, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

No idea, I also don't know whether it's still a Toolserver/Hardware problem or a Software problem. I'm still waiting for replies from Siebrand and Bryan. We need this Bot back to work ASAP. --Denniss (talk) 16:01, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your help in this cat. Could you do my a favour. Pls. remove this cat, when you checked images in it. Then other helpers (like me) does not need to open and check those images again. Thx and regards. --JuTa 23:00, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

re this image: File:Brother-greg-and-brenda-shoop.jpg and this edit. What evidence is there for a CC-by-sa licence? Has the image author agreed to this? Andy Dingley (talk) 21:52, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Haa Alif Atoll

Hi, you reverted the rotation of File:Haa Alif Atoll.png. Now we have north on the right again, and west on top. Today the most common convention for maps is the have north on top, see here. I haven't yet found a differing convetion according to which west is on top. I presume that you oriented yourself at the labels on the map, and prefer the names of geographic objects from left to right, to which I agree. While there may such a convention, you cannot make one thing right by making another thing wrong. Please observe that the original upload of the map was with north up. Whoever doesn't like the labels bottom-top may change them, but one by one and not by rotating the whole map to the right.--Ratzer (talk) 13:30, 1 June 2013 (UTC)

Please upload the version you need under a different filename and link to the original. Do not force other wikis to use a version better suited to your wiki but not to the others. --Denniss (talk) 21:35, 1 June 2013 (UTC)
Please explain to which wiki a map with west on top is suited better, and why. I'm thinking about restoring the original upload under this name. Whoever needs west on top should upload that version under a different name. Greetings,--Ratzer (talk) 18:22, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
Map is useless with the text not readable, also no one else complained for years. Best solution is to upload under a new name to fix it for your wiki. --Denniss (talk) 18:26, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Muchas gracias. Saludos.

Your image does not have a license. To keep this image here at Commons a license has to be added, otherwise the image will be deleted in about a week. I just have seen the image in question is a smaller version of an existing image with a valid license so it's deleted.--Denniss (talk) 17:21, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello, You left a message on my page to say this file lacked certain information. I took the photo, and I renounce any copyright. I've visited the file to correct the omission, but it's ridiculously complicated. Why Wiki can't make such things more user friendly is beyond me. If you can add the info I'd appreciate it. Obscurasky (talk) 23:27, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

I asume the original source/licensing information was lost to some data corruption, I added information and a PD-self license. Please have a look, confirm the license and I'll remove the no license tag. If you need changes please either do them yourself or feel free to ask me again. --Denniss (talk) 23:36, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

De Blue Baron

Why is the picture removed from the article about BMW Scuderia RO?

I have looked at the Wiki Commons file for this image which I took myself. I cannot see how to add the missing tag for adding a licence. Please tell me exactly how to correct the situation. RuthAS (talk) 09:58, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

I added a license tag you used on two similar images from the same day. Please confirm this was correct and I'll remove the no license tag. --Denniss (talk) 10:03, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
Hello Denniss. The licence tag that you have added is just fine - thank you! I sometimes struggle with the finer points of Wiki contributing. I always try to add the correct licecne - dont know why it did not seem to work this time. Thanks for your help! RuthAS (talk) 11:00, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Cryptic block logs

When block logs like this with no "publicly visible" discussion to back them up appear, it's a bit of a concern. Can you say something to give me and others confidence that the decision was not taken unilaterally and most administrators either have access to the facts behind these blocks and would make the same decision or that a group that is trusted by the community (i.e an Commons equivalent of English's checkuser and arbitration committee groups) has access to the facts behind the block and, if they didn't make the decision in the first place, would very likely endorse it.

I'm asking in general terms about all Commons blocks that appear to be made by a single administrator but whose reason is either cryptic or, as in the case of the above example, stated but not backed up by any Commons discussion that is publicly visible.

As an aside, I am aware of public discussion of abuse (diff) by the user in the example above that matches the block-reason on another Wikimedia project but I cannot find any Commons discussion by any administrator that would endorse a Commons block. As a Commons user, I would love to either have transparency or, when discretion is preferred or required, the assurance that a trusted group such as "all administrators" or an even-more trusted Commons group (sorry, English checkuser doesn't count, unless they are also Commons checkusers and trusted by the Commons community as such - which may be the case with unified logins) has either discussed these blocks in a non-public setting or they have access to evidence strong enough that no discussion is required. Davidwr (talk) 14:27, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Standard sockpuppet block if there's evidence it has been used by someone other to avoid bans or upload copyvios. Master is usually left active at Commons until he has done bad things here as well. BTW if en wiki checkuser confirms socks and the account is SUL'ed it's a sock here too. --Denniss (talk) 14:31, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

IJN

You've re-named including "IJN", many files. As an abbreviation of the Imperial Japanese Navy "IJN" Did disabled? I want you to teach discussion if such existed then.--OskNe (talk) 06:53, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Just as HIJMS this implies a prefix that never existed. It's not a valid abbrevation either, it's a short form invented by english language sources. --Denniss (talk) 10:35, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Discussion does not exist, is this judgment of one person you? It does not exist as a formal ship prefix, but it may be considered as omitted is a adjective "Japanese Imperial Navy". There is a notation of IJN in some book, and file name shorter. I can not understand the need to re-naming the "IJN" mechanically.--OskNe (talk) 12:42, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Hallo Denniss.

--Leyo 10:16, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Gracias.--Inri (talk) 21:45, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Question about sources.

One at least one I did list the source such as this one.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Captured_P-40_Warhawk_Japan_Air_Force..jpg

Here is one of the links that I found them on.

http://www.vrtulnik.cz/mil/4.slp.htm

Also that the photos that I posted qualify to be in the public domain for their individual country.

Revert of a file move

Hi Deniss, I noticed you reverted a move I made. Since I am quite new at this particular administrative function, you will have to explain to me what I did wrong. Thanks, Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 21:49, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Files should not be moved unless file usage in other wikis is replaced by the file mover. High use files should not be moved at all, lower usage files should only be moved with the move+replace button and using your global account for replacement. That's all because the global replacer bot User:CommonsDelinker stopped working about a month ago. If you don't have the move+replace button please enable Ajax Quickdelete gadget in your preferences. Opening move+replace in a new tab/window will revert to the standard move function without replacement, this should not be used. --Denniss (talk) 22:23, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
But I'm pretty sure I used move+replace on File:Eddiestobarttruck.jpg, and you still reverted? Do I not have a global account then? (I assumed these were set up automatically on all other projects in the recent username changes?) Ultra7 (talk) 11:51, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Ultra7:You have no global account, there are some other inactive users with the same name probably blocking this (see [8]. If you can't merge them with Special:MergeAccount you may need to usurp them or just wait for the new forced global user acount to come into effect somewhere in the next months. Usurp request for en wiki is at en:Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations, don't know if you can read chinese/japanese. --Denniss (talk) 12:04, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Ah right. I thought it had already been forced. Cheers for the info. I'll probably just wait if its coming soon. Any chance you can do that particular move using your global account? It's the only image in that category that's not in line with the current convention. Ultra7 (talk) 13:43, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Already moved. --Denniss (talk) 15:07, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Cool. Many thanks. Ultra7 (talk) 16:08, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

License Review

  •  Comment: I mentioned this issue to Lymantria so perhaps I should just tell it to you to. Flickr, Panoramio, and Picasa Human Review all have no (or few) images to mark but almost no one marks this Category where there is 600+ outstanding images. A month before it was maybe 500 images but no one is experienced enough to mark these unique License review images except for an Admin. Admin Morning Sunshine used to mark these images but he stopped almost all his Commons activity in early April...and few people mark them and I cannot either. Many images have copyright problems and some are OK but only an Admin would know what to do here. Perhaps you can leave a message on an Admin board for other Admins to mark these images or mark some photos if you wish. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:36, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Nicola Peltz

Hey Denniss. I saw you moved File:Nicola Peltz 2012 (Straighten Crop).jpg back. The name is misleading because the image was not straightened (actually, I started the "straightened crop" deriv title before MyCanon began using it), and the file is a derivative of my "(soft contrast)" version. Your edit summary said the file wasn't replaced. Since only two pages use that file, I could've done it in a jiffy, but figured I wouldn't mess with the CommonsDelinker bot. Is that why you reverted my move? It would take less effort than it does typing all this to replace the redirect link in the Wiki articles to the moved file. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 17:59, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Please use the move+replace function for in-use images as the Bot you are talking about is dysfunctional since May 10, see watchlist message and notice on renaming cat. Do not open move+replace in a new tab/window or it will revert to a standard move without replacement function. --Denniss (talk) 18:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
ok I had no idea commonsdelinker was out of operation. I don't move files in separate windows or tabs, I just use the move tab and a small popup appears and boom it's done. Anyway, I've put a speedy delete request on the "...(soft contrast crop).jpg" page to make way for the move again and I'll do the whole thing manually. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 18:27, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Make sure the checkbox to replace moved images with your account is always selected in this popup (at the bottom). --Denniss (talk) 18:38, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
It is, it's always checked (as is the "leave redirect behind", which doesn't give me a choice). I don't understand, now or before, what the checkbox for "replace moved images with your account" means. But I will certainly replace moved images using my account... so... – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 18:45, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
That option is an automated (script-assisted) usage replacement but it is limited to a certain amount of file usages. It can't be used to replace high-use images. --Denniss (talk) 19:05, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, thank you for clarifying. I wasn't sure if it was a "checked if you understand you'll be trying to replace moved images yourself" or whatnot, which would just be silly. Thanks for your help :) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 19:18, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

DR deleted ???

Hi Dennis. Where did you see that I've created the DR by accident ? Was intentional ! There's no FoP in France and this skyscaper was built in 1968 (Sillon de Bretagne) and is very original by its look. Architect cannot be dead 70 years ago if the building is 45 y.o. !!! This other file (DR asked in the same time) has been deleted for the same reason. I don't understand why you did that ... I can't revert ... May you do it, please ? --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 00:05, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

You blanked the DR page and I deleted it therefore as that's to be counted as withdrawal or accidental creation. If you accidentally blanked the DR I'll restore it. --Denniss (talk) 01:34, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
I don't remember I've blanked the page. I don't know why I'd have done that ... And I don't see nothing in my history. When am I supposed to have done that ? Are you sure it's me ? If it's me, sorry. Weirdo !!! o_0 ...°
Yes, please, if you can restore this DR because no FoP in France, blablabla ... Thanks. Have a good weekend. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 07:59, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Undeleted and cleaned-up, plese see file history for your blanking. --Denniss (talk) 09:15, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Ah .... OK, Sorry ... I forgot that. Was because I thought it wasn't the good way to ask for deletion and next, I made another DR with the right form so I guess they're 2 DR for the same file. Sorry I'm very tired those days and my mind is awhere sometimes ...If I remember well I cliked on mass deletion instead of single deletion. I hope it doesn't matter too much. When a page is blanked users histories are blanked too ?
Sorry again. And thanks a lot for what you did. --Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 20:32, 15 June 2013 (UTC)--Llann .\m/ (Lie 2 me ...) 20:32, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello I want to upload again map of the European Council since 29-05-2013 but I didn't provide information about licence. Now I can't upload the file. Could you help me? --Aight 2009 (talk) 19:37, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Restored, please add a proper license or it'll be deleted again. --Denniss (talk) 20:08, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Why did you put that this photo doesn't have a missing permission? The photo is mine, I don't know what else you want. --Brais Camposino1 (talk) 09:34, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Because Google search showed some hits for the image. Also the resolution is somewhat unusual. --Denniss (talk) 13:52, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

Fragen

--Denniss (talk) 13:07, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Bitte erklär mir mal, was Dein Eingreifen bewirken sollte. --Maxxl2 - talk 20:32, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

CSD

COM:CSD Unused and implausible, or broken redirects is a criteria for SD. Denniss you revert this edit [9], but Agata Szukielowicz is not a only person who use agata. There is so many agata who use this name.[10] Agata Szukielowicz is not the representative person who use agata, and others feel it too.[11] I can't understand your edit.--777sms (talk) 23:33, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

File:371736445 42bf48672c b.jpg is totally meaningless file name and is not used by other Wikis. This meaningless file is no possibility to reuse by others. Why did you revert other editor's SD request?--777sms (talk) 23:44, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

This may all be correct but it's also irrelevant because the images were available under this name for years. It's a general policy not to delete these redirects because reusers most likely used it under the old name which no points into nowhere. --Denniss (talk) 01:02, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi Denniss. Can you take a quick look at this file. I wasn't sure what revisions to restore. Stas tagged it as an unused redirect, and I missed the fact that it was in use. I've temporarily placed a redirect on the page. INeverCry 21:49, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

I was asked about it here. INeverCry 21:54, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
