Vietnamese Dragon

Can you please make a spelling correction on this map? The town marked as "Horivka" on the map is actually called "Horlivka". Also, it would be appreciated if you could verify its location on the map. It seems a bit astray. RGloucester (talk) 04:55, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

The two maps you gav me as base are not the the same regarding projection, proportions so therefore it's really hard to be exact when you combine them. Also the positions of cities and areas can and differ within them.
  • If I check against this map Horlivka is in the right position and also the rest of the towns. The rebel-held areas include Horlivka on the 18/6 but is excluded on the 28/7 which is correct according to this map. I have moved Horlivka a very very short distance towards west as it in my mape touched the border of one area.
  • On the other map some of the cities are in a wrong position in our map. This is due to that the two maps doesn't have the same projection, proportions so it's impossible to match them above each other. In this map Horlivka is included in the rebel-held areas of 18/6 (dashed) as in our map. If you look at the brown area Horlivka AND Donetsk is also included in this, but not in our map. To what I recall the brown areas shows 31th of August (I tend to forget ones a map is finished).
  • I have changed the area of what I recall as 31 August to include Donetsk and Horlivka and you can look at this draft here. I do not have any knowledge of the different subject I create maps for so it's up to you who has the knowledge to check them carefully. Give me feedback on this, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk)

The Russian invasion of East Ukraine

Hello Goran

Hi Goran,

Can you create this kind of letter stroke animation? Jaqeli 20:17, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

Yes I guess I can. --Goran tek-en (talk) 20:22, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Can you please create such stroke animation for Georgian letters? The letters are many but if you could make even 1 letter in couple of days that would be great. Here is the letter strokes for the first Georgian script called Asomtavruli and can you please make as an example first letter the way this Japanese letter is animated? Jaqeli 20:52, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
@Jaqeli: If your intention is to make many in time, it's very important to think thru what you want, how it should look, what size, what speed and so on.
I have made a draft for one letter which you can see here.. The color is not all black as I think its nicer to look at. I didn't put in the green start as it makes no sence to me. This is made with straight lines and I don't really like that, which pen is like that! The lines are also even but to make them with varying thickness is more work. This image is 400*400px and with 25px spacing around. This as a base for all the letters so they look the same.
So have a look at it, talk about it, think it thru and give me feedback. As I said before, it's very important to test the first one so the rest can be done in the same manner. --Goran tek-en (talk) 13:12, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot Goran. I agree, they should be of same size and format so I'll tell you now what I think. Personally I think that the color and speed can be taken as the Japanese letter has above. I still think that the green start would be also great. So let's make it the way Japanese letter is. Same speed, same letter colors and with green start. I also like the thickness of Japanese letters so maybe if you can please make a bit thicker Georgian Asomtavruli letter as well. And please we don't need that black frame the Japanese letters have, just a white background would do it so no black or whatever color frames on Georgian letters. Jaqeli 13:27, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
@Jaqeli: New draft for you to give feedback on. I do have the same speed as the other one but who it looks also depend on how much you change each layer in px. So it's very hard to compare like that, it's all about how it looks to you. Give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:14, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Goran now this is perfect one. Jaqeli 18:36, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

@Jaqeli: I will need the following;

  • Name of the file
  • Description
  • Category/ies at commons

to be able to upload it at commons. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:26, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Name of the file: Asomtavruli letter Ani stroke order animation

This is perfect Goran. Thanks. Let's follow this format then. When will you be able to make next letters? Jaqeli 20:08, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Do you want all the letters done in this file "Asomtavruli.svg"?
  • If so I can't give you a specific time frame, I will work on them in between. If you can't "wait" for that then you have to try to find some one else to make them.
  • It would help me if you gave me all the file names (description the same) and category for each letter. Start in top left corner and work your way right, then next line and so on. Get back to me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 11:53, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Goran. Now I will write all those for next 5 letters and when you'll make them I will write you next 5 and so on. So here are the next file letters with descriptions. And yes make all those letters from File:Asomtavruli.svg.

One mistake - Districts of damascus map

Hi Goran, there is one thing wrong on this map. Would you be kind to change the color over the name of Kafersouseh from grey to light blue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipalities_of_Damascus#/media/File:Districts_of_damascus_english.svg

How it should actually look like (Kafersouseh). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Districts_of_damascus.png

please change also these (same mistakes) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Districts_of_damascus_arabic.png https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Districts_of_damascus_arabic_vector.svg

Whenever you have the time..

...if you could revisit File:World War II in Europe, 1942.svg and File:World War II in Europe, 1942 (no labels).svg and introduce a dotted border between Germany proper, and its two internal protectorates: the en:Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and the en:General Government. You can easily spot the two borders on in the original Europe 1942.svg file (the only dotted borders anywhere near Germany).

I completely missed this one earlier, my apologies. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 21:47, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

I've uploaded a dummy map to highlight the locations. Aside from those above two (now highlighted in green and red at the map), there's the internal border in Slovakia that's also erroneously a full line (highlighted in pink), and we're missing altogether one internal border in occupied Serbia (highlighted at the dummy in yellow). --DIREKTOR (TALK) 22:08, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
They are updated now, but I saw afterwards that you had changed some colors in one of the files. I'm sorry but I edited my full Inkscape files as I want an Inkscape copy for easier editing in the future or other purposes. So you will have to redo your color edits, hope that's not to much work. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:49, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Australia map

Hey Goran tek-en,

Once again, thanks a bunch for your work on this image of Australia. It has definitely come in handy on the articles and in my opinion itlooks a lot better than the map that was previously used... I have noticed one small issue with it and it's kinda comical that I hadn't noticed it earlier. The map currently shows a large inland sea/lake looking thing in the south-east of the country. I didn't even notice this, until now, but it's actually another state of Australia and indeed the home of our capital city, Canberra. Hahaha. It's a little funny that it took me a few months to notice this, even though it's a city I've been to! I only noticed it when I created this template and noticed that one of the clubs must be playing water polo or something similar. :P

Sorry that I didn't notice this when it was in the Graphics Lab! If you could edit the map to show this as land, that would be awesome and you'd have my utmost gratitude! Cheers! - J man708 (talk) 10:13, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear Göran,

the wikipedia lacks a good scheme of a en:Sewage treatment plant. The one included here is very old. Could you vectorize this scheme? It's in german, but I've supplied a translation here:

German English Number
Zulauf Intake 1
Rechen Grill 2
Sandfang Grit chamber 3
Fettfang Fat chamber 4
Vorklärbecken Primary clarifier 5
Belebungsbecken Activation basin 6
Nachklärbecken Clarifier-settler 7
Ablauf Drain 8
Rücklauf Reflux
Eindicker (Sludge) thickener 9
Rücklaufschlamm Reflux sludge
Sekundärschlamm Secondary sludge
Frischschlamm Fresh sludge
Hygienisierung Sterilization 10
Faulturm Digester 11
Schlammstapel Sludge tank 12
Gasometer Gas holder 13

I would be very happy if you could find time to do this.--Kopiersperre (talk) 18:33, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

I can do that but before I start you will have to provide me with a proper source so that I can see that we are permitted to use it, so get back to me on that, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:08, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Source is de:Römpp Lexikon Chemie (h++p://roempp.thieme.de/include/images/r300/RI-159-0604.gif).--Kopiersperre (talk) 21:39, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
You have to be careful concerning Schöpfungshöhe (Treshold of Originality/Verkshöjd, Kopiersperre is also German and will understand). Don't know if it is OK to redraw such a diagram, maybe better ask the experts.--Antemister (talk) 19:11, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Just feel inspired from the template. There is no need to vectorize it 1:1--Kopiersperre (talk) 19:49, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I don't understand. Do you not want it any more? --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:23, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I still want it. But I encourage you to differ a little bit from the template, that there is treshold of originality in your work. This is only for calming down the copyright people here.--Kopiersperre (talk) 14:57, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

@Kopiersperre: Now there is a draft for you to look at. I'm not sure this is what you wanted but just give me feedback and we will take it from there, thanks. At position 6 the air bubbles has a almost black ring on my server. This is not the way they will look at wikimedia, I have checked. I will not edit this now, first I want your feedback. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:23, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

This already looks very good. I think it would be better to place text and not numbers inside the scheme, because a sewage treatment plant is not self-explaning.--Kopiersperre (talk) 06:06, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
@Kopiersperre: New draft for you to look at. Give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:28, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
The scheme is already from high artistic quality. It must be shown, that the activation basin is very agitated by pressurized air. This basin has just a rectangular section.--Kopiersperre (talk) 19:44, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
@Kopiersperre: Something like this, new draft for you to look at. And as I said before some lines appears to dark here. You can download the draft file and check it here. Uncheck "Check this file for errors", this will render a png in scale 1:1 just so you can see that. Or you can download it and view it in a viewer, Inkscape or other. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:25, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Do you think it's ready for upload?--Kopiersperre (talk) 20:08, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Goran,

I am relatively inexperienced Wikipedia contributor. I saw I have done something wrong while trying to revert the Armenian Genocide Recognition Map to a previous version. I am trying to remove the dark green shade of Bulgaria on the map, as Bulgaria actually did not recognise the events as "genocide". On 24 April 2015 the parliament passed a declaration in which it chose to refer to the Armenian Genocide as "mass extermination of Armenians" (or "mass killing") instead. Here is an article on the subject by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Could you please revert the map the right way.

Many thanks, --Goschko (talk) 13:10, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

There is a revert done on that file so I guess it's OK now but please check it. I was asked by someone to make Bulgaria dark green and as I have no knowledge of this I have to trust that the information provided is correct. If you and other editors have different views you can discuss that on the talk page of the file or where the article is. Once all of you have come to an agreement you can ask me to change what is needed, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:51, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

God

Hi Goran, can you help in image reconstruction of one god? I need something like this Egyptian god is reconstructed in SVG. Could you help? Jaqeli 17:08, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand, the image you link to is a svg file. You have to explain it more for me to understand. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:26, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Can you create that kind of SVG image of a god as that Egyptian one is done? I have description how it should be look like so maybe you could help in constructing that image? That Egyptian god SVG is just an example you could base the new image of god upon to. Jaqeli 19:07, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes I can do that but you will have to provide me with a good source and any other information I need, colors and so on. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:29, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Here is the description of a god:
a standing man (color bronze)
to his body was attached a golden suit of chain-armour
on his head he had a golden helmet;
he had emerald eyes
he had beryl epaulette
in his hand he held a sabre glittering like lighting
Jaqeli 20:13, 30 May 2015 (UTC)
With this description I can make A LOT of different looking gods. I thought you meant a specif god looking in a more or less specific way. How does a chain-armour look like and so on...
This means I will have to do a lot of research to find images and so on. I'm sorry but you will have give me a more specific information and some good image sources if you want me to be able to do this. Do you want it to be an Egyptian god and in there style of images?--Goran tek-en (talk) 12:37, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes just like SVG god as the Egyptian god is made. Base those information, colors and descriptions on that SVG as it is a good way for god reconstruction. Jaqeli 13:53, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
That's fine but I don't think you understood all of my text above. Read the bold text above and get back to me. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:05, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Just make it a simple SVG outlined just like that Egyptian one is done. It does not really matter how it will look like. Make it simple with simple chain armour, helmet, sabre and with all those colors. Jaqeli 19:02, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't want to annoy you but I'm not really comfortable with this. To me it's really strange you can't provide any other image/s where I can see how you want the different parts to look. As I said before, this god can look in so many different ways and I have to find sources and imagine for me what you want. Maybe when I'm done you will say, no not like that and then I have spent hours in vain. I want to help you but I can't work without the information I have asked for several times. Also for what article or other stuff on Wikimedia will you use this? --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:46, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't have any image or illustration unfortunately of this god. If I had any of course I'd show you. Just make it simple, as long as it has all those characteristics as the description says and with all those colors everything will be great. It is a part of Georgian gods' pantheon and most probably the image will be used in many related articles mostly in Georgian wiki but in English too. Jaqeli 20:17, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
@Jaqeli: Now we will see if this is even remotely like anything what you are looking for, I'm still confused about what you are looking for. Look at this draft and give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:37, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
This is great. Just remove the red tissue from the helmet and that tissue also that is attached to his lower dress. Also just make his lower dress simply golden without those colorful stones. Jaqeli 21:13, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
@Jaqeli: Look at this draft and give me feedback.
I will need the following;
  • Name of the file: Armazi god
  • Description: Armazi god
  • Category/ies at commons: Mythology of Georgia
to be able to upload it at commons. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:31, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@Jaqeli: I'm sorry to put it on you but I will have to ask you to request me in a month again. I don't like to have things like that hanging over me and I don't keep a list of stuff like this, so just get back to me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 09:25, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Flag of Bao Dai

So, next step of the Vietnamese dragon project, hope you have received my eMail, but you can find the image also at File:Personal flag of State Chief Bao Dai.JPG, and only recently a photo was uploaded at File:Norme personnelle de Chef d'Etat Bao Dai.JPG (it is actually the car flag (fig. 100), judging from size, ratio and color of the fringe - according the book, the fringe of the car flag was gold, although the picture shows it in red). So, please vectorize the normal flag, using the green dragon and the pre-fabricated fringe. The color of the fringe is, according to the text in the book and the source, actually red and not purple (use the red of the south vietnamese flag). Don't try to find a new color shade for dragon & structures, your version suits well.--Antemister (talk) 21:43, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
@Antemister: Which do you mean by "vectorize the normal flag"? --Goran tek-en (talk) 10:39, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

There is the standard flag (fig. 99), to be flown on building etc., and the car flag (fig.10). The relevant one to be vectorized is of course the standard flag. If you want you can also vectorize the car flag (shouldn't be that much work), but that is not important.--Antemister (talk) 16:20, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
@Antemister: Now there is a first draft for you to look at. The shape of the dragoon is very different is that OK? I have just done a few of the figures so that you can tell me if this is somewhat right? Give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:53, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Yes, keep the dragon as it is. Flags/emblems designed in the pre-computer age often show severe differences if you compare different sources, the degree of details depends on the abilities/time of the artist. The two structures are well-drawn according to the source file. A further note concerning the fringe: Looking at your draft, I actually see the car flag there, as the fringe is to large for a normal flag. For the normal flag, the same fringe from the army flag should be used. What you also should do is replacing the "dark-yellow" contours by dark-red ones.--Antemister (talk) 21:43, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
@Antemister: But you told me to use fig99 and in that the fringles are that long. I will change to the other ones but then I will change the overall shape of the flag compared to the source fig99.
New draft to look at. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:05, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
OK, well done, don't see any possibilities to improve. The only remaining issue is the exact ratio of normal and car flag mentioned in the book. I do not have the book here at the moment, so you have to wait until friday before final upload.--Antemister (talk) 16:34, 24 June 2015 (UTC)
Had a look into the book, but the informtionen is not as detailed as I presumed (exact ratios are provided only for later flags). The text tells that the car flag was "almost quadratic", but actually you should refer to the photo at File:Norme personnelle de Chef d'Etat Bao Dai.JPG, that's the best source one could imagine. For the normal flag, use the ratio of the South Vietnamese flag.--Antemister (talk) 09:08, 27 June 2015 (UTC)

@Antemister: Now there is a new draft for you to look at. I didn't intend to do the car flag, anyway not now if that's OK with you.
I will need the following;

  • Name of the file
  • Description
  • Category/ies at commons

to be able to upload it at commons, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:41, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

The name is a somewhat difficult issue here if you want to make it both short and descriptive: Flag of Bao Dai (1948-1955).svg should be suitable. The description has to be more detailed: Flag of Bao Dai as Head of State of the State of Vietnam (1948-1955). The relevant categories are Emperor Bảo Đại and State of Vietnam.--Antemister (talk) 20:26, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
I didn't know if we could give the book as a source, if you know it's OK you can add it.
Now you can find it here Flag of Bao Dai (1948-1955) --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:26, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

August 2015 version distribution data is now available – any chances, please, for updating the File:Android historical version distribution - vector.svg chart? It should be also noted in the chart that the July 2015 data is unavailable, similarly to how it's been already done for the missing October 2014 data. Any help would be appreciated! — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 07:00, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Updated, but I'm not sure about the date. All the rest has 14th of the month but August was released on the 3 what I can see. I put 14th in the file because I was not sure. If you want me to change just tell me. Also it would be god to know if I should use the date on the page or always 14th? --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:47, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much! That's a very good remark, and IMHO it would be the best to ditch the days completely and switch to the "MMM YYYY" format for the x-axis labels altogether. As you've noted, version distribution data snapshots are not taken at the same day every month, so specifying the dates in labels is rather useless. Also, we should probably go with the month names abbreviated to three letters ("Jan 2015", "Feb 2015", "Mar 2015", etc.) to make the x-axis less crowded and more readable. Hope you agree. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 14:27, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
New version uploaded and I agree. The snapshots are actually taken during a seven day period so in this the last update it's both July and August. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:58, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Request

Hello! Can you please help out here? Thank you--باسم (talk) 08:28, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

This is a bitmap (jpg) image and not easily translated just like that. You will have to remove the existing texts carefully first.
Will there be a need for more translations later on? If so then I think it would be worth to make it into a svg file.
Anyway I have to much going on right now. If you don't get any help within three weeks you can get back to me and I will help you, but I will still need answer to my question above, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 10:50, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
No i don't think there will be any need for future translations. I usually translate jpg files myself and it takes some time, but eventually its worth it. I Couldn't translate this one because of how the background is, thats why i came to the workshop. Anyway, I'll keep it there and be back in case no one helped, as you said. Thank you--باسم (talk) 11:31, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

The last vietnamese dragon

A fourth and last flag can be drawn using your vietnamese dragon: File:Nguyen Imperial Pennon (m1).png. Can you do it?--Antemister (talk) 11:49, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Yep, can do. --Goran tek-en (talk) 13:40, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

@Antemister: Have a look at this draft and give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:33, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Short feedback now: Absolutely perfect at the first try! Upload it as "Flag of the Imperial Palace of Annam.svg", then also upload only the flag without flagpole and pennon as "Car flag of the Emperor of Annam.svg". Actually, the descriptions are rather contradictorily: According to the book, it was used on the palace, but also as car flag, while [8] calls it a "Fanion", e. g. a car flag, but a pennon on a car...? Hope my assumption here is correct.--Antemister (talk) 21:43, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Oligarchs in the Kingdom of Hungary 14th century

Hello! Thank you for creating and uploading File:Oligarchs in the Kingdom of Hungary 14th century.svg to the Wikimedia Commons, this is a very useful map. However, there are some minor errors (mostly typo) in your image, I'd like to draw your attention to them: "Holly Roman Empire" --> Holy Roman Empire is the correct form; "Poland Ujlak" --> what does it mean? Simply Poland is would be enough, I think; "Serbia Havasalföld" --> Before 1330s, Wallachia (Havasalföld) did not exist, so this is anachronistic info in this map, simply Serbia is enough; "War of unification" title --> War of Unification; as in foreign language texts, Hungarians use the Western name order, it would be more appropriate to use here too --> Máté Csák, István Ákos, Amadé Aba, Kőszegis, Rátóts etc. keep up the good work, regards --Norden1990 (talk) 20:50, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

@Norden1990: Hi and thanks for the input. As I'm sure you know I do graphic work and as good as always I have zero knowledge of the subject for the map. This map was created as a request by @BokicaK: and he provided me with the information and translations and approved the map before uploading.
So this puts me in a dilemma, who is right?
  • I would appreciate if the both of you could discuss this and then get back to me with what you want changed, and I will do that.
I just want the map to be as correct it can but I have to trust in what people tell me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 14:33, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
OK, I hope we could discuss it. However, there are some typos and facts, where we don't need confirmation. en:Holy Roman Empire and not "Holly"; "Ujlak" is a name of some Hungarian settlements or areas (hu:Újlak (egyértelműsítő lap)), so I don't get it... "Lengyel Királyság" = "Kingdom of Poland". en:Wallachia was established only in 1330, in addition it appeared at wrong place in the map. Before Wallachia, the territory was ruled by the Golden Horde (as it correctly appears in your map), but the situation is very vague. I am a native speaker of Hungarian, contrast to User:BokicaK. --Norden1990 (talk) 16:44, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
@Norden1990: It's very good you are a native Hungarian speaker. I did ask BokicaK to write all the texts so that I would get all the different letters correct but I didn't get all. I have changed most of what you wrote (if I understood everything) so I would like you to check this draft and give me feedback. If you want me to change any more names etc you will have to write it exactly for me, I can't guess, thanks. I do believe you regarding the typo stuff and for the disputed things it's good if you two can agree on something so I don't have to change all the time, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:56, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks four your effort. the name of the neighboring countries (Serbia, Poland etc.) are now good. In English-language historiography, medieval names are usually Anglicized, and we have articles about most of these oligarchs under those names, so, I suggest modification of the lords' names, here: Matthew Csák, Stephen Ákos, Rátóts, Amadeus Aba, Nicholas Pok, James Borsa, Ladislaus Kán, Ugrin Csák, Kőszegis, Paul Šubić, Stephen Babonić, Dujam Frankopan (the latter three were Croatian nobles, thus surname changes also needed). Unfortunately, I am inappropriate for image editing :( --Norden1990 (talk) 20:23, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
@Norden1990: It would have been easier if you gave me both the name on the map corresponding to the new one, I had to guess for some and this one "Stephen Ákos" I don't know were to put, you have to tell me.
Check this draft and give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:54, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
István Ákos = Stephen Ákos (the small province in North-Hungary, between Csák and Aba). Otherwise, the other modifications are OK. Thanks. --Norden1990 (talk) 22:28, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

@Norden1990: New version uploaded.

Now it's OK. Thank you very much and I appreciate your patience and work. --Norden1990 (talk) 09:37, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Dear Goran tek-en, it is certainly a good idea to make maps on commons with colorblind friendly color systems and I appreciate that you do. However, if you modify an existing file which is used in several Wikipedia language editions as this one, what do you think happens with all the legends in these Wikipedias? Right, they won't fit the map any more. And since no change has been made on the local Wikipedia, it won't even show up on anybodies watch list. It was only by chance that I noticed that some reader complained about the mismatched colors today and thus could fix it for the German edition. I assume most of the other language versions are still messed up.

I'd like to suggest two options for the future. Either you leave the old file untouched and create a new one. To make the new version known, you could write a short announcement on the discussion pages in the language editions using the file. Or, you do alter the original file but also correct the various language versions. Or at the very least put a note with respect to the required change on the individual discussion pages.

Just changing the file on commons without caring about the mess caused in the Wikipedias should not be an option. Best regards Dietzel65 (talk) 14:27, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

@Dietzel65 and Nyttend: Hi, it's correct that I made the graphic work on that file but if you check towards the end of the request Color_coding_on_map you can see that I asked the requester for information to upload it as a NEW file. The requester told me that I should upload it on top of the current one.
I'm a graphic worker and it's really hard for me to know why something is requested or how it will be used, that has to be the responsibility of the requester. Of course I use my common sense to avoid the most crazy things and I think I did. I DID change the key of the file because so much I understood. So really you should turn your correct feed back to the requester as I see it.
I can see the problems that occurred so I will upload it as a new file and revert the "original" one. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:32, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I will change the captions. Please don't waste your time uploading it as a new file, because it will make a histmerge necessary. Nyttend (talk) 16:41, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I didn't see your replay until I uploaded a new version World map of long and short scales colorblind and I don't understand what you mean by "histmerge necessary"? --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:57, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
@Nyttend: I'm not sure that I like that you delete a file that I have made and uploaded as a separate file. That feels like you run over me. I do understand your reason but it feels strange. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:32, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
"Histmerge necessary": I initially thought that a history merge would be needed, but since you'd previously uploaded the new image in the right place, a simple reversion got the job done. Policy says that simple improvements get uploaded under the same filename, not under separate ones, and duplicate images get deleted. I value your changes enough that I made the new version useful on a bunch of Wikipedias, even figuring out Swahili color words to ensure that the captions reflected the new colors. Nyttend (talk) 17:36, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, guys, for taking care of this so quickly. From the file history, user:Goran tek-en was the only one that could be addressed. Maybe in the future you want to add something like "as requested by XX" to the comment in similar cases, so that potential complaints just might go that other way :-) Cheers, Dietzel65 (talk) 08:27, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Sorry for having to come back to this. I would like to keep the discussion at one site so I ping @Nyttend: . It turned out that the colors in the legend where mixed up. I now added the actual colors to the legend and this made it pretty clear. Should have noticed earlier, unfortunately didn't consider that this might be wrong and just copied. "short" must be in the US, "long" in continental Europe, "both" in Canada, "other" in India. These were the easiest controls for me. Also, I tried hard but could not actually find any "no data" countries (although Antarctica might have been a good choice) so I commented out this line from the legend. Please correct if I overlooked something.

Another question is more general, the choice of colors. At least I and another person who helped me to sort this out on the screen (both normal color sight) found it rather difficult to distinguish these various shades of green and blue. And I wonder if various shades running from cyan to red or blue to yellow would not be better choices. No idea if there is some consensus on that. Regards, Dietzel65 (talk) 11:38, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

@Dietzel65: @Nyttend: You (Dietzel65) should not go in and edit stuff if you are not sure what you do. Also you could have read the request because then you would have seen that there actually exist areas with no data. This is what was to read in the request Actually there where five different colors but one "no data" is just two tiny areas, one in central Africa and one south east of India. What I have done is to change around two colors so "no data" now has a dark blue instead of the pale yellow. I hope that is better. You have to correct what you have done, not me. First of all I don't no where you have done it and you are the one responsible for it. What you have done in the legends I have no idea and to me I'm responsible for the map not how it's used.
The colors are chosen by the use of this page http://colorbrewer2.org/ (can also be read in the request) setting it up for the appropriate circumstances. To me this is the only way to get it right as there are so many ways you can be having problems with colors. If you want to make another version, go ahead but please don't mix with this one. So correct what you have changed so it's back to what it was before that, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 16:54, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Oh my, Goran tek-en, really, did you ever take an argument more serious because it was shouted at you?
Well, I did look through the page of the map, but I didn't think it might be necessary to also browse through the wiki links to find important information, i.e. the request.
Anyway, let's get constructive. With your pointers I was able to find the tiny 'no data' area in Africa (Burundi) and Asia (Brunei) and I added this information to the legend, to make it easier for others. Of course I put back the 'no data' to the legend.
But let's not forget the major point of my previous post: The legend in the previous versions was wrong (10 Nov, 12 Nov), assigning e.g. pale green (and thus e.g. west and central Europe) to "neither" (10 Nov) or "short" while it is actually the long scale that is used there. I didn't say it was your fault and frankly, I could not care less whose fault it was, but a fault it was. That is what I mainly corrected. And I am afraid that @Nyttend: might have used these wrong assignments when going through the other language Wikipedias. This concern was the major reason to revive the discussion here.
Thanks for the pointer to the Color Brewer. This might come in handy. Best regards Dietzel65 (talk) 21:58, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
@Dietzel65: Thanks for your input/correction and I would like to explain that the bold text was meant to emphasize not to shout. If you know of any other way to emphasize please tell me, I want to know for further occasions. As you say, the result is the purpose so who did what "god or bad" doesn't matter, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 08:24, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

It was not only the bold type, it was also the wording (using imperative), but whatever. Print in Italics looks less pushy, I'd say. Cheers. Dietzel65 (talk) 16:35, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your input, I'm learning how to behave here so I appreciate it. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:45, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Fotobank watermark removing

Hi, Goran. Could you please teach me how did you remove watermark for example from this image? Did you use some software like GIMP or something else? I would like to do it myself and not disturb graphical workshop editors in the future. Thanks, Interfase (talk) 07:38, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
@Interfase: Yes I do use GIMP and a tool named "Clone Tool". There are different settings in that tool if you double click on it.
Here you can find information about the tool. and if you press F1 within GIMP the Help appears.
You do need to practice and get a feeling of what the tool does. You can search and find more information online. I also use "Free Select Tool" so that I can work inside or outside an area, very good when different colors or tones are close to each other. I don't know what experience you have but it takes some time to get this right and it's good to have a feeling for colors, some drawing and so on. It's really not so much more I can say, I'm sure different people do this work in different ways so you have to find out what works for you, just practice. If you think I can help you any further just contact me, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:51, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi and thank you for asking. According to CC BY-SA 3.0 license you can use this if you give credit according to this: "By Goran tek-en CC BY-SA 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons".
I don't know how you will use it, website, print or other form but the svg-original file can be found here svg-original. At this page you can also download different png versions, sizes. If you need any other size and you can't convert it your self just contact me. Png is a much better format compared to jpg. Png does not remove any information as jpg does and you do not get the typical jpg artefacts.
There is also one numbered version if that is better for you.
It would be nice if you could send me a link or something where it's used, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 17:11, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
