GODL-India

Hi, I am undeleting all images available under this license from Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. Could you please fix the source (mandatory by the license term), and the categories. Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:13, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

@Yann: Sure, thank you. I'll work on them shortly. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 06:26, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
See also Commons:Deletion requests/Indian airforce photos. And since the images are sometimes removed from the source, you should ask for a {{Licensereview}} for each of them. Regards, Yann (talk) 16:21, 8 June 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: Thanks for the ping. Also doo let me know if you're undeleting any others related to Indian military. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 04:47, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
All ✓ Done Yann (talk) 09:51, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: Does this mean that all the works of Government of India with proper source and attribution are now accepted on Commons? --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 10:09, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I think so. Yann (talk) 10:10, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: Great, that is a very good news to hear. Kindly give me the link to discussion, so that I can share the news to other editors as well. Also I am concerned about whether they should be directly accepted or not? I mean we could create Commons:License review category for that, so that they can be checked. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 10:15, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Please see Template talk:GODL-India and various discussions linked from there. So far, nobody has objected. I wonder whether {{Attribution-PIB-India}} (not used), {{Indian navy}} (used by thousands of files), and {{Attribution-IAF}} (used by a few files) should be discarded and replaced. Regards, Yann (talk) 10:34, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Yann and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga. Feel free to give me a ping whenever you see a deletion request on Government of India works. As the template creator, I'm happy to give my opinion there. (Yes; I too think {{Attribution-PIB-India}} and {{Attribution-IAF}} can me discarded or redirected to {{GODL-India}}. {{Indian navy}} has OTRS permission; and I'm not aware of its terms.) Jee 11:28, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Jee: Do you think we need a wider discussion before discarding these templates? The permission for {{Indian navy}} comes from the webmaster, that's why there still were some uncertainties about its validity. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:42, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
@Jkadavoor: Thanks for the support. Yann, I feel we should, especially considering the usage and impact. Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 11:45, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
OK, see Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Merging templates about Indian government works. Regards, Yann (talk) 11:53, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Two times it is discussed on VPC and last time I added a notice in AN too. No further comments from any. So I didn't see the need for a further discussion. The GODL permission from Govt of India is much stronger than a permission from a webmaster. So in that case, {{Indian navy}} can also be discarded in my opinion. (But its fine as a discussion already launched.) Jee 11:55, 9 June 2018 (UTC)
Yann, Krishna Chaitanya Velaga: Now that discussion get archived. Hope they can be merged now. Jee 04:15, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

@Yann: Kindly delete the following files

Because of most of these are by PIB, and tracing the links with the images is almost impossible, because the links might have been scrapped (usually it is done after an year or so). Also the some from the air force website, because IAF recently launched a new site, and the all the old links are broken, they are news as well. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 10:10, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi, These are OK if there is no doubt that the image is made by the Indian government. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:16, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: By assuming good faith, yesǃ But it'll be almost impossible to prove if there is any case in future. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 13:18, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Typically, this could not be taken by any one, but the Indian Air Force. It is not a question of trust in this case. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:24, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
@Yann: Yes, you're right. --Krishna Chaitanya Velaga (talk · mail) 13:33, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
We have a contractual obligation to provide a link and an attribution. However if the link is dead because the source website changed, it is not our fault.
Two of templates redirected. What do we do with Category:Attribution-IAF? Redirect or delete? Yann (talk) 14:21, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

File:Gen Bikram Singh with COAS US Army Gen R T Odireno.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
