Needs work

[edit]

The template starts with: “Thanks for uploading [[:{{{1}}}]]. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.” And then it goes on about how to add info on the creator.

The problem is that this template is added to a user talk page after {{No license}} as well as after {{No source since}}. So often we give users the wrong message at first. Does anyone oppose to rearranging this template a bit? -Samulili 20:27, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you're going to make substantial changes, I suggest posting it here on the talk page first in case anyone wants to haggle over it, since this template is probably quite widely used. pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:06, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading [[:{{{1}}}]]. I notice that the image description is not sufficient. Either the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, or the media doesn't have a copyright tag.

If you have not created the media yourself then you should specify where you found it i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. You must also attribute the media to its creator like law and Commons policies require. If you have not created this media yourself it's important that you can argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons. Finally, tag the file with a proper copyright tag.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Even if the media is created by you, give out all the relevant information you have about its origin, such as where and how it was made.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

Problems with this template

[edit]

I have two problems using this template on a regular basis

  • The template is very long, and used many times. Therefore user talk pages can get cluttered with messages for a lot of images very fast
  • It's not usable with multiple images.

My proposal would be to design a new template that is entered once on every user's talk page, where images with unknown sources and/or licenses listed below that general template with a time indicator and a link to the file. Husky (talk to me) 21:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, for multiple images this template doesn't have to be used. The images can just be listed in normal text. Fred Chess 10:02, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry my english ist not so good. I have made this image. The infomations comes from [FIPJP Homepage]

I don't know anything about the source of this photo, but I know for SURE, that depicted dance is NOT Azeri, but pure Georgian. National clothes, dance and characteristic choreographic and body movements are absolutely Georgian. So if the person who put this photo on this page didn't do it purposely, than he/she should be very carefull doing things without having any idea about it.

template about lack of source even if author is given

[edit]

This template informs user about lack of Author information. Is there a template informing user about lack of source information? For example {{PD-Polish}} and possibly many other licenses require a proof that image was published in some time period. I need a template informing about lack of source even if author is given. If there is no such template than I will probably create one, but I am concerned about name confusion with this template. Any suggestions --Jarekt (talk) 13:48, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Needs more work

[edit]

I've drafted a rewrite of the English version of the template, attempting to address some of the issues listed above and others. Please see the discussion on the talk page of the English version. LX (talk, contribs) 18:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[2] isnt working anymore, please remove the link. ~Lukas talk 19:43, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

Why not start with a "Thank you" like in Template:Image permission? --MGA73 (talk) 11:23, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

During the rewrite of Template:Image source/en (which is where the English text of the template is), I gave my reasons for removing the thank-you sandwich at Template talk:Image source/en. LX (talk, contribs) 12:38, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cc-zero

[edit]

The text suggest that user add {{Cc-zero}} if own work. Why not suggest {{Self|Cc-zero}}. And also fix Template talk:Image license. --MGA73 (talk) 14:52, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
