Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 20:18, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Blank maps

[edit]

Hi!

I've got a request for blank maps: Could you create maps similar to Image:BlankMap-World-v4-colored.png (or Image:BlankMap-World-v4.png, if that happens to be easier) which not only include small independent states as enlarged circles, but also small non-independent entities (e.g. Channel Islands, Faroes, Tokelau, Guam, ...), resulting in a map where every entity which is part of w:ISO 3166 can be coloured somehow? That would be *great*...

Follow through after changes

[edit]

Hi there, I noticed your changes to Image:LocationCentralMiddleAfrica.png. I can understand why you made these, but in fact you forgot to change the caption to go with it! So not only on Commons but at en.wiki (and others?) the map and caption now look like nonsense.

Could you now do CheckUsage on the image and go through checking/changing each and every last use of the image? Sorry to put the burden on you, but alas it's your responsibility... Cheers, JackyR 00:30, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since he's been inactive for many months now (I believe since May on en:), I think it's rather unlikely he'll do that. —Nightstallion (?) 14:37, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh. To be honest, I'm not convinced his change was actually for the better (although I understand his thinking). NS, could you take a look and if you agree simply revert the pic? Ta, JackyR 07:17, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Iran Russia Locator.png

[edit]

For color deficient person those two colors are way too alike (at least on a smaller pic which is shown in the main article). I suggest to change them to something else. 64.186.168.227 21:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Aris Katsaris!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Death_Penalty_World_Map.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

What is the yellow star on black flag? -- AnonMoos 10:39, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a mistake. For some reason, when uploaded, the diagram showed some mistakes that aren't seen in my Inkscape. I will try to figure out what's the problem and fix them later today or tomorrow. Aris Katsaris

Can you add the border of South Sudan, which became independent in 2011, in the widely used maps File:BSEC Map.png, File:Borderless countries.PNG and File:People's Republics.png?

Hello.

Can you remove the flag of the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) which dissolved in 2023 in File:Supranational PostSoviet Bodies RU.png?

It has been removed in the original English version File:Supranational PostSoviet Bodies-en.svg which you originally uploaded.
