Pay attention to copyright
File:Great Chase Through Time Cover.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:The Big Ben Burglary Trailer.oga has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Not helping

[edit]

Dear Coin945,

Your actions regarding the block of David Condrey are only working counterproductive. What used to be a simple case has been turned out to some high profile drama, mainly because of your and David’s actions. This is not a wise thing to do when you want certain things to happen. An administrator will think twice before getting involved with David’s unblockrequest because of the escalation you caused. A unblockrequest has already been made and someone will look into it shortly, well, not shortly because of this escalation. Please do the right thing and walk away from this discussion. You are not helping, you are making things worse. The key to solve this drama is self-reflection and stopping the “canvassing” happening at en-wiki. I hope that you will think twice before harming someone else his cause with unmellow behavior. Let things cool down a bit.

Kind regards, Natuur12 (talk) 13:59, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for your response @Natuur12: . I would actually argue the opposite of what you have stated. With his editing abilities (besides to his talk page) taken away, with no opportunity to defend himself prior, David was essentially silenced by those administrators who carried out the action. His only option is to find a Commons administrator who is also present at Wikipedia. Otherwise the only people he can talk to are those who were directly involved in the conflict and therefore have a WP:BIAS. It has already been proven that he is who he claims to be, and that all the images he uploaded are either original works, or within the public domain. All I seeing a proficient editor who has been targeted due to nominating a certain penis-related pic for deletion, causing this saga as a sort of revenge.
Many actions taken against David have been proven to be misguided, and this is reason enough for the block to be removed. DR-ing many images based on an anti-pornographic themed deletion without checking whether any of them were used on Wikipedia articles first (what David did) is one thing. Silly, yes. But we can get over this simple mistake. Hastily bulk deleting them all without much discussion or investigation (something an administrator did), is something else. Deleting images based on dubious (later proven false) claims, and blocking an editor based on those claims is just deceitful and knee-jerk. The injustice caused must be brought to the administrators' attention, or else David will not have a voice to defend himself.--Coin945 (talk) 02:25, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. The unblockrequest was made by David (I copied his text to the page), but decided it was not a good idea to post on behalf of a blocked person (regardless of how reasonable I think the block was), so hastily reverted myself. I.e. there is no unblock request to speak of.
As I said, David is currently searching on Wikipedia for a Commons administrator to help him in this case, so this is only going to get bigger as more evidence comes showing how David was wrongfully treated. As I have said, I am just the messenger, helping out a friend who I know has been given the short end of the stick. I guess we'll see what happens next.--Coin945 (talk) 02:25, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can only repeat what Natuur12 said above. Not only you does not help him, what you seems to be more and more someone looking for trouble. You should better use your time to provide some content. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:13, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Can you explain how our efforts are considered "not helping" and "looking for trouble"? Can you also give advice on how someone in David's position should go about getting their account unblocked? --Coin945 (talk) 13:34, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked

Yann (talk) 13:56, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You have been told to get back, but you didn't listen. Get one week holiday until this issue is over. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:57, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for notifying me of this. Have a good evening. :)--Coin945 (talk) 14:04, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocking

[edit]

@Yann: , it's been four years since I was blocked, and I've had some time to reflect. I believe I was wrong in the way I acted during the discussion all that time ago, and let my emotions get in the way of solid facts. You were right to block me. Now in 2018, may I be unblocked again?--Coin945 (talk) 13:21, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
