Thanks for uploading File:Caprimulgus maculicaudus - Distribution range.gif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Yours sincerely, JuTa 20:11, 14 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Cinclodes atacamensis - Distribution map.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Cinclodes atacamensis - Distribution map.gif]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Sporophila beltoni - Tropeiro seedeater (female).JPG, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.

If you created the content yourself, enter {{Own}} as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} or {{Cc-zero}} to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:46, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this was a cropped image but you gave it a different licence from the one on Flickr. You should always give it the same license as the one given by the original author, but I've fixed it and given it a good review. By way of information for the future, when you want to crop an image I suggest you use the CropTool that can be activated in your commons Preferences, under Gadgets. The CropTool will then appears in the left side of your screen. It saves everyone a lot of time because it transfers all the correct and appropriate information into the cropped image, such as source, license, author, etc. It even leaves a backlink, as I have added in your case, to the original and visa versa so long as the original has been positively reviewed. That way all the proper information is there and does not need to be manually reviewed by volunteers. If you are just cropping a small bit of the image like a frame you can decide to overwrite the original image but for more major crops, like the one you did, you should upload the copped version as a separate new image, but you have a choice. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 15:53, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot! @Ww2censor: --Hector Bottai (talk) 16:07, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Image request

[edit]

Would you happen to have a higher quality, and clearer photograph of the southern chestnut-tailed antbird (Sciaphylax hemimelaena)? An article at the WikiJournal of Science will be published soon and your image will be in it. If you have a cleaner image, it would be great! Cheers, Andrew. Z. Colvin • Talk 08:45, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Azcolvin429: . Unfortunatelly it is the only shot I got from that difficult antbird. What I did is a better treatment of the RAW picture and the result is already uploaded at Commons. Take a look. Your choice. Cheers. --Hector Bottai (talk) 12:09, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for getting back to me. I am glad you were able to get this picture nonetheless! Before your upload, there wasn't even one on here. Keep up the good work! You take excellent photos. :) Andrew. Z. Colvin • Talk 20:19, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Azcolvin429: Did you see the new version? Pls, once the publication is online, let me know a link to watch. Regards.--Hector Bottai (talk) 20:37, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I did see it! It looks great. Much sharper and more colorful. Thank you for that. Keep up with the great photographs! :) Andrew. Z. Colvin • Talk 00:22, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

H. rufimarginatus vs H. frater

[edit]

Hello Hector Bottai! It is not easy to understand the range of Herpsilochmus rufimarginatus vs Herpsilochmus frater. Do you have a way I can resolve this ? --Cephas (talk) 23:25, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Cephas: ,

My understanding following the SACC resolution (which is different of Birdlife previous separation), is easy, on your map of the H. rufomarginatus, everything north is frater/exiguus or H. frater, everything east is rufimarginatus/scapularis or H. rufimarginatus. What I would do is only one map with two colors, one for the northern huge area and other for the eastern (Atlantic) área with the correpondent legends. Thanks!--Hector Bottai (talk) 23:55, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Knipolegus signatus

[edit]

Hello, both BoW and IUCN restrict the range of Knipolegus signatus in Ecuador and Peru, but the description of the text extend it to Bolivia and Argentina. Can you find me a reference that correspond the description ? --Cephas (talk) 12:08, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I now understand that the description above correspond to Knipolegus cabanisi + Knipolegus signatus. --Cephas (talk) 12:15, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We need your feedback!

[edit]

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spinus yarrellii

[edit]

Hello Hector, I created the map for Spinus yarrellii with the very sparse range in eastern Brazil as shown on IUCN (and BoW), yet all sources indicate its presence also in Venezuela. I am somewhat confused. Should we use this map as it is? Cephas (talk) 16:13, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Cephas: The population in northern Venezuela has been introduced, probably very small. You should not worry about it. Hector Bottai (talk) 19:21, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

[edit]

Hi Hector Bottai. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:37, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Pseudocolopteryx acutipennis Subtropical Doradito; Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brazil.jpg.

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Pseudocolopteryx acutipennis Subtropical Doradito; Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brazil.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

File:Polystictus pectoralis Bearded Tachuri (male); Canelones, Uruguay.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
