Joseph Jenkins

[edit]

Shwmae,

I’ll stick to English as you request.

I’m still not convinced that File:A Swagman (2715952698).jpg and File:Elderly swagman.jpg are of Joseph Jenkins. Joseph’s photographs can be seen at [1]; these are photos in the possession of his family and reproduced in Bethan Phillips’s book about him. I don’t see the similarity between the man in the photos and the man in the two Commons files. My suspicion is that the linked reference [2] lifted the image File:Elderly swagman.jpg because it was the first hit on Google for “swagman” (as it is the image which illustrates the Wikipedia article Swagman). Indeed there is nothing in the historic-uk reference which states that the image is of Joseph (the alt-text just says "Swagman", and there is no other caption). Also: Joseph died in 1898 and the pair of photos on Commons are dated 1901 and 1908. Joseph left Australia in 1894. Dogfennydd (talk) 18:18, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gei di ddefnyddio Cymraeg ar tudalen fy hyn (neu chdi dy hyn), yr unig lefydd rhaid defnyddio Saesneg yw tudalenau dogfenni neu ar tudalenau 'talk' ar wikipedia a.y.y.b,(sa fod yr tudalen o wicipedia Cymraeg). Os ti ddim yn siŵr os dyna pwy ydi o, ysgrifenna rhywbeth fel; 'it is thought', 'the picture may not be of Joseph but the story of him is', mae'n well dangos gwybodaeth sydd ar gael ynhytrach nag cael gwared o unrhyw wybodaeth. Dim problem. Ond does dim tystiolaeth o gwbl taw Joseph sydd yn y lluniau ar Comin, felly pam dangos gwybodaeth sy’n anghywir? Dogfennydd (talk) 18:33, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Shwmae — heb glywed unrhwybeth pellach, felly dwi wedi gwrthdroi’r rhannau sy’n honni taw Joseph yw hwn (ac hefyd ar yr erthygl Waltzing Matilda ar enwiki, er mwyn gwybodaeth). Gellir trafod yn bellach ar File_talk:Elderly_swagman.jpg. Dogfennydd (talk) 18:00, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
