First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines

South Korean currency images

[edit]

I noticed you tag several currency images with {{Copyvio}}. From the message you left on my talk page, excuse my low Korean knowledge, it seems your concern is the presence and size of the word "SPECIMEN" on those images, as required under the Guidelines for the Reproduction of Bank of Korea Notes and Coins. I think there is no problem here since, and I quote:

3. ...reproduction of coins may be allowed in any manner provided that the reproduction meets the following general requirements as specified in D.
3.C.2. The word "SPECIMEN" or "보기" shall be marked on either the obverse or the reverse of any part,(...),of the reproduction...

So since coins images don't need the word "SPECIMEN" on them, and every bank notes images have the word on either the obverse or reverse, apparently in the required 50% of the currency length and 15 % of height and contrasting colour, I am removing the deletion tags from those files.

I also know a few of those images don't seem to respect the 72 dpi limit mention in section 3.C.1., I will see to those soon and do the proper corrections.

If you have other concerns or want to dicuss about these, please leave me a message on my talk page. Luccas (talk) 21:51, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About South Korean notes

[edit]

I looked closely at the the reproduction guidelines in Korean[1], since you said that the terms "either or" are only mention in the English one[2]. The Korean one only says "...초상 부분을 제외한 여타 부분에..."; "...in the section other than the portrait section...". I know in Korean plurals are usually used in situations where it is deemed necessary to specify it, and in this case the word "section" in singular and nothing is said about if it is all section on both sides or only one side is sufficient. I would assume their translation was professionally done and would stand as being accurate.

So I'm still standing by my decision that the word SPECIMEN on either the obverse or reverse suffice. Luccas (talk) 03:59, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also the terms "partial reproduction" means a reproduction of only a section of the note. Since the entire note is reproduced here this would be of no concern. Luccas (talk) 04:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is much to think about it. Jtm71 (talk) 07:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To play on the safer side here I'll go with your decision to have "보기" or "SPECIMEN" on each side. I'll also review all images to make sure they are under 72 dpi or reduce their resolutions so they are so. Once this is all done I'll put a note on Commons:Administrators' noticeboard to have older versions of the images deleted. For now I removed all {{Copyvio}}. Give me some time here, the list is long.
But if you find a faster way to have older image version deleted without asking on the Administrators' noticeboard let me know, I couldn't find any. Luccas (talk) 17:51, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to your proposal. Thanks. Jtm71 (talk) 20:59, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I changed the picture, because we had 3 photos in sequence of the same author, could you check the translation. -- RTA 19:10, 20 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you created this template for a POTD, unfortunately the picture didn't correspond with the right mosque. This is fixed now and the text description you created is not accurate anymore, could you please have a look at it and improve it accordingly. Best, Poco2 18:21, 4 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
