File:Brussels Atomium.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi NahidSultan, thanks for your application to be an image reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

You can also add {{User reviewer}} or {{User trusted}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! User:Armbrust (Local talk - en.Wikipedia talk) 14:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi NahidSultan, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Natuur12 (talk) 15:22, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I objected to this move before it was made it it is inappropriate to change name using "File renaming criterion #5: Correct obvious errors in file names" when the issue is being discussed. It is NOT a obvious errors.
The cited source clearly says it is Leonard J. Arrington. There are no other images or even names on that page to confuse it with. See page 99. There is also no way for us to prove she is Leonard J. Arrington daughter. Even this person is 100% correct and telling the truth, it goes against Wikipedia policy to just take her word for it. Verifiability, No original research, Conflict of interest, clearly state that she cannot change a cited item unless she has a cited source, especially since she has a personal interest. I know it would seem logical to take her word for it, however, Wikipedia is Verifiability, not truth. She need to be able give a verifiable source to change it (and she cannot be that source. I was willing to help find a verify her claims, but it was moved in the middle of the discussion. This is the wrong way to do thing.
I offered to help verify her claims, but this image should be put back until that happens.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 18:54, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi, why you have renamed this image? Images should not be renamed here on Commons if they exist on a Wikipedia (which one?). Here is the central point for files. Marcus Cyron (talk) 21:10, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Marcus Cyron, This file was requested to be renamed by its uploader & he specified criterion #1. Although, the action shouldn't be proceeded because his stated reason was not valid but in this case I considered the moving as he is the uploader. Next time i'll be more careful. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 21:54, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Austin 12 image name change

Many thanks. Again. Best wishes Charles01 (talk) 08:09, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

This was not a valid rename in light of "File renaming criterion #2". Prior name was hardly "completely meaningless". While I am not opposed to improving it, replacing it with non-Latin name is not proper. The file name should retain the original English character; Korean script can be added the the description box. As the uploader, I request either a reversal of the name, or a replacement with (or addition of) of the better (even more descriptive) English name. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 05:06, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Piotrus, As you'r the uploader, Could you please suggest a descriptive name of the file? According to google translator, the korean name means "Church of the Southern Presbyterian Church in Yongsan". Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 08:15, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
I'd use both: File:Church of the Southern Presbyterian Church in Yongsan (대한예수교장로회 용산남부교회).jpg‎. English one would be sufficient too but we can accommodate two languages. English one has the priority, however, as it was the name I chose as the uploader (if we have to choose). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 03:48, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Total 31 files found from Expert Seminar on Mass Digitization and Open Access to Cultural Heritage as the owner said. License statement was okay at the first time from owner so i think i'm going to go upload the files here, i'm not sure though what should be the name of these files. Any suggestions? @TLSuda: ~ Nahid Talk 22:19, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
I'm not really sure. I would include UNESCO in the filename, but the seminar name is rather long, but I cannot think of a shortened version. Maybe File:UNESCO Mass Digitization and Open Access to Cultural Heritage seminar X.jpg ? I took a class once on naming conventions, but this one is tough and I think its going to have to be long regardless. Cheers, TLSuda (talk) 22:45, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
According to image themselves, Seminar name was "Mass Digitization and Open Access to Cultural Heritage" & I presume organized by E. F. Commission for UNESCO. I uploaded three of them with the name File:Seminar on Mass Digitization and Open Access to Cultural Heritage (3).JPG, i'd prefer to add UNESCO in the description area. It's okay then right? ~ Nahid Talk 23:03, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

I think any name would be okay, as long as you keep them named similar (and probably eventually create a category for them all). Cheers, TLSuda (talk) 23:39, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Renaming locator maps files

Please rename the files I've tagged for renaming. The correct names are the ones I've proposed. "Bistrita-Nasaud" and "Caras-Severin" are the correct names (not "Bistrita Nasaud" and "Caras Severin"). For the file with the name "Judeteul Gorj 3D map.jpg" the correct name is "Judetul...". All the files in the category start with "Judetul". Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Musichistory2009 (talk • contribs) .

Hi @Musichistory2009: Your stated criterion was wrong. Criterion #6 only applies if the file is being used by the template. You should have stated the criterion #5. Please see, COM:FR for guidelines. ~ Nahid Talk 20:16, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that are not subject to copyright restrictions which would prevent them being used by anyone, anytime, for any purpose. The license that applies to an image or media file must be indicated clearly on the file description page using a copyright tag. All information required by that license must be provided on the description page. The information given on the description page should be sufficient to allow others to verify the license status. Now if you are not the copyright holder of a specific image/media, then best thing you can do is ask the Content creator or copyright holder to release the specific work under compatible license and request him/her to send an email to our COM:OTRS via permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using COM:ET format. Please read Commons:Welcome to know how to use Commons. Cheers! ~ Nahid Talk 12:18, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Just a quick question about the OTRS on this file, it's Description says it is "Madeline Sands on the Today Show in Australia" by which I assume it is en:Today (Australian TV program), in which case can you confirm the ticket is from someone at the Nine Network, the shows producers ? as it the same as this LGA talkedits 00:10, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi @LGA: Nope! Email is not from Nine Network, Email is from smegroup associated with Smallworldsocial where she works. Now i'm curious, According to this, the owner of this image must be the nine network. ~ Nahid Talk 07:36, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Photo listed for deletion.

Dear Nahid,

you have listed my file File:BDF Logo.jpg up for deletion. I uploaded this file in the position as a worker for the not-for profit organization Berlin Demography Forum itself in order to use it for my Wikipedia article about that Forum. Copy rights of this logo rest within our organization. Since the Berlin Demography Forum is a high ranking Conference co-organized by the three Federal Ministries of Germany, I find this Logo highly relevant. However we as a organization only need this foto to link it to our Wikipedia article. If the foto can be deleted in Wikimedia commons without deleting it from our wikipedia article this would be fine with us.

After seeing your deletion I would like to put the facts/thoughts on the table and let you decide whether to undelete it or leave it deleted. I think it's free because of this page on GitHub: https://help.github.com/articles/open-source-licensing and the project doesn't have any license file. On the other hand, when I look at the README I see the picture is taken from the url: http://o-n2.com/scaloid_logo.png and I couldn't find any license information from a well-known site by Google and I also don't want to enter this website because I don't know it (I don't enter sites I don't know). Conclusion: I don't know if it's free but actually I think uploading a product logo is a fair use. Idloj (talk) 15:28, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi @Idloj: I don't find a license statement either that means the default copyright laws apply. This also means that you retain all rights to your work and that nobody else may reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from your work. And most importantly, you can not store files here under fair use policy. Because, "All copyrighted material on Commons (not in the public domain) must be licensed under a free license that specifically and irrevocably allows anyone to use the material for any purpose; simply writing that "the material may be used freely by anyone" or similar isn't sufficient." Please read COM:L for further information. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 06:13, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Obtaining permission from someone who's deceased

Hello Nahid. I've been in email contact with User:JosephPrendergast, who has uploaded 21 photos[1], which will soon be deleted. He has asked me for advice, but unfortunately even though I'm an experienced Wikipedia editor, I don't know anything about uploading photos and the issues with rights. I understand from this user that he has now placed his photos in public domain. If he hasn't done this correctly, please tell us the steps to do so. He forwarded an email from you regarding derivative works in which you suggested he'd need permission from the artist whose works he has photographed. The artist is deceased, so I'm not sure what would be done in this instance. Also, I believe that at least in some cases, this user owns the work that has been photographed. Would that have a bearing? Thanks so much for any help you can give. And for all the help you've already given. TimidGuy (talk) 10:50, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi @TimidGuy: We've received email from the uploader only for this image. Generally, if the original artist/copyright holder is deceased, copyright will transfer to his wife. If the wife is deceased too, then the right will transfer to his children and so on... Now if User:JosephPrendergast is the copyright holder then he has to prove how the copyright was given to him. Otherwise, We need permission from who/whose own the right. Note that, By taking a picture with a copyrighted cartoon character on a t-shirt as its main subject, for example, the photographer creates a new, copyrighted work (the photograph), but the rights of the cartoon character's creator still affect the resulting photograph. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 11:44, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Nahid, for your help. The artist in question has a surviving daughter. What must she do to transfer rights to the images to public domain? Or to Wikimedia? TimidGuy (talk) 10:35, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Also, this work [2] was quite controversial. A photo of it was sent out by a wire service, and many newspapers published the photo. Since this work made the news, would it be possible to use the image without first getting permission from the copyright holder? Thanks. TimidGuy (talk) 10:41, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
@TimidGuy: Anytime, I am very much glad to be of service. Unfortunately, yes if she is the current & only copyright holder. Please, Tell her to send an email to COM:OTRS with a releasing statement can be found here. And for this file i presume no. If the owner of that image is not the artist's daughter then we need the same permission from who owns it now. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 10:54, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks so much! Seems easy to accomplish. TimidGuy (talk) 14:43, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

my name is Jennifer Wohletz and I work for the SCHWENK Putztechnik company which is a daughter of the SCHWENK Zement. My boss told me to create some information about the SCHWENK Putztechnik for wikipedia. So I started to upload one of our company pictures with our copyright yesterday. Today it was already deleted by you.

So now I would like to ask: how can I upload our own company pictures without any problem?

My boss wanted the SCHWENK entry in wikipedia to be published in the end of May.

Yours sincerely,

@Vladimir.tm8: license changing is not the fact. The fact is this work belongs to Google if and only if the Google agrees to release it under compatible license its okay then. Otherwise, it probably be deleted. By the way, You can ask experienced graphics lab members to make a map for you. I think this solve the case. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 08:10, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

I understand there may be some confusion, but this image is properly licensed for use on Wikimedia Commons.

I do not know how to delete the copyright violation tag. Can you please remove it for me?

Additionally, I am going to be uploading a set of these images (https://sites.google.com/a/umich.edu/fammed-modules/parenting/swyb/learn-signs).

Hi again @Sdascola: I'm really sorry that you can not upload these images on commons because these images are licensed under NonCommercial use and this type of license is not permitted on commons. You can see Commons licensing here at COM:L. I didn't notice it at first time ~ Nahid Talk 15:30, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
Hello, @NahidSultan: could you please let me know the proof you are looking for to ensure that the images I have posted are, in fact, CC BY-SA? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdascola (talk • contribs)
Please go to here and you may see the prove " Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Details and Exceptions. © 2014 Dr. Michael Fetters". Thanks. ~ Nahid Talk 18:06, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
Hello again, @NahidSultan: I can understand that this might be confusing. The images are CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the text is CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0. Please refer to these pages that state the BY-SA license for the images: Learn 12 Signs and Eat_finish_jp.jpg. It might also be helpful to refer to the homepage Sign With Your Baby that states: "Except where otherwise noted, content on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License." I believe the "otherwise noted" portion of that statement is the key to the eligibility of posting the images to Wikimedia Commons. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sdascola (talk • contribs)
(talk page stalker) You have to explicitly state that the file is licensed under CC BY SA, and the only person who can do so is who draw the picture. Also, I could not find any evidence that file is licensed under Commons' compatible license. Revicomplaint? 14:46, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
@Sdascola: Also, One thing can resolve this matter. If our OTRS team get an email confirmation from Dr. Michael Fetters that he has licensed those works under Commons' compatible license then you are okay to go. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 15:26, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Northside Hospital images -

The images for Northside Hospital are on their website and can be added to the Northside Hospital wiki page. How do I add them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ttudrew98 (talk • contribs)

Hi @Ttudrew98: All you need to do is ask the Northside Hospital to send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from their official address with a free release statement for this image. If everything works out, then the image can be hosted on wikimedia commons. Also, this page might be helpful for you while asking permission from them. If they agree to release this photo under free license then you can tell them to use this sample email format to send the statement to above address. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 19:24, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

@AbHiSHARMA143: Please read COM:DW first and read it again. By taking a picture of a copyrighted book cover, for example, you create a new, copyrighted work (the photograph), but the rights of the book cover's creator still affect the resulting photograph. Such a photograph could not be published without the consent of both copyright holders: the photographer and the publisher. And please stop removing deletion tag from your own photos. You already did that multiple times. If you continue upload such things this will probably consider as a vandalism and you will be blocked. ~ Nahid Talk 14:29, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

NahidSultan, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and its subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

This edit does not provide us with a useful source where we can check the copyright status of the image. Even though you claim it is from 1914, what newspaper did it appear in and is it online so we can see it? We require sources so we can assess the licence claims made by the uploaders. I have reverted you edit. Thanks. Ww2censor (talk) 13:38, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

As stated on the page you just deleted, permission to use the above-noted file was e-mailed to OTRS at 19:20 PDT 13 June 2014. It is not my fault that OTRS has failed to act in a timely manner on this e-mail, and the Wikipedia article to which this file links should not have to suffer for this failure. Why is this page/file not allowed to stand in the interim? What purpose is served by a policy that, paraphrased, allows that "we may take weeks to confirm a license but we'll nuke the file in a week anyway"? —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 00:23, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

I've found the ticket, it's ticket:2014061410000874. However, the email has insufficient information about copyright status. Please check your email, you got follow up from OTRS ~ Nahid Talk 00:54, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
The most recent e-mail from Sunni was misread by OTRS; she originally sent a file with permission only for Wikipedia. I wrote back notifying her of this and that the image she sent me was likely improper anyway since it's the same image Bianca Ryan uses on her own Web sites and commercial use by another would likely not be preferable. Sunni then sent the image you just deleted in response to my notification. I will be responding to the e-mail presently with more detail. —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 01:44, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
I have just sent a follow-up e-mail including the entirety of my relevant correspondence with Ms. Ryan's assistant. Thanks for your attention, and cheers. :) —ATinySliver/ATalkPage 02:14, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello!

I was wondering if you could do me a favour. I'm planning on taking Katrina Kaif's article to GA status, though some of the images have not been passed yet (in terms of licensing), and I think they need to pass in order to attain GA status. Since you're a reviewer I was hoping you could check the licensing of this, this and this. If you could do that, that would be awesome! Thanks in advance! AB01 (talk) 10:43, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Sure, Done. Though i've a little bit confusion about if the two of them really covers OTRS ticket. Because according to the otrs ticket we can only use image which is created exclusively by their own photographers. Now question is how we can be sure without watermark? Anyways, As category Files from Bollywood Hungama has already contained many images without watermarking then why not those two :) ~ Nahid Talk 13:03, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
I can not thank you enough, bro! :D Well, two of the images are watermarked actually. And as for the last one (the Nakshatra image)...I did a Google search on the pic (by dragging the image into the Images search bar) and the only websites that have that exact same image are blogs and unnotable (is that a word?) websites, and I doubt that they would be the photographers of that picture. Anyway, thanks again! :-) AB01 (talk) 13:20, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Deleted Photo of Journal Cover Scan

How are you doing today? I'm new to Wikipedia and was hoping you could help me out. I saw that the photo I had put down for the entry on the Israel Journal of Foreign Affairs, a scanned cover of the latest copy, was removed. It says this was done for copyright purposes. If I was given permission by the owner of this material, would I be able to put it back up? If not, what steps do I need to go through in order to put up a copy of the cover? I see other journals and magazines have scanned covers on the page, there must be a way to do so if they do as well. Thanks for all your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dgranot (talk • contribs)

Hi @Dgranot: For images to be hosted on Wikimedia Commons, they require the copyright holder to provide a specific release under a suitably free license (such as certain Creative Commons licenses or the GFDL), which allows anyone to use them for any purpose, including commercial usage and derivative works (subject to applicable laws). Now if you are not the copyright holder of a specific image/media, then best thing you can do is ask the Content creator or copyright holder to release the specific work under compatible license and request him/her to send an email to our COM:OTRS via permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using COM:ET format. If everything works out there then our OTRS team will restore the file for you. If that is not possible and you still wanted to use cover photo to a specific Wikipedia article then go to here and upload the image with appropriate information. Deleted image

Hi NahidSultan,

Just wanted to apologize about the (now deleted) Blue_Giant_sapphire2.jpg file. I consulted a number of users beforehand (1, 2, 3) about licensing/copyright issues so it comes as no surprise that the image was deleted. It was suggested that I upload the file under a 'fair use' license but the image can't be used in an article submitted for a DYK nomination, which is what I had in mind for the file. Question: If a copyright owner gives permission to use a copyrighted photo can it be used, somehow, here at Wikipedia/Commons? Is there a special form or something for that? My guess is 'no' but I figure why not make sure. Once again, my apologies for the file I uploaded last. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 23:24, 20 June 2014 (UTC)

{Talkpage stalker comment) - if the copyright holder does want to give permission for the image to be used, they should email the OTteRS team at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using using the format given at email templates. It takes a while because they are backlogged but if it all checks out, one of the OTteRS will restore the file or request it be restored and then they will add a special sticker to confirm the permission. Green Giant (talk) 01:33, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi @Gwillhickers: As has already been said, The image can be stayed (or used wikimedia projects) here if the copyright holder release the image under commons compatible license. All we need is a confirmation from the copyright holder via OTRS system. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 08:10, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
@Green Giant and NahidSultan: , thanks for the info and your help. I made such an inquiry yesterday and am waiting for a response. Photos of the Blue Giant are not very plentiful, often times with the same photo occurring at different locations, so it's a bit difficult to determine where a given photo originated and who owns it, but I'll keep on hunting around and making inquiries. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 19:39, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Exif??

Hi! I just wanted to know how you found the interior details regarding an image of N. Srinivasan which is currently deleted?

Reference: N. Srinivasan (chairman).jpg

I don't know much about that, I just borrowed it from my friend. Yes, I also don't know how he got that image.

But the fact is, how you came to know that the image is originally a cropped of this?

 HPD   talk  15:11, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Click here, download the image in your machine. After the finalization process move your cursor over the image, right click on it. In the "properties" you should see the "details". Now apply the same process on your image, you may find the similarities between two images. Oh, could you please explain why you have deleted the file from here before asking for this query? Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 17:58, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Ok! I just checked it... Yes, right from the start, I asked my friend where from he got it and weather it's free or not? He answered that he had already edited it and modified all the details by clearing up the old ones in image "properties" on pc and no one would know about it. Then I thought that it'll be right so I uploaded it. But how you came to know that it's of that the image was originally a cropped from the link you mentioned?

Ah! I just wanted to tell you that I discussed a little bit regarding this matter in Elcobbola's talk page (See this) just have a look over it and you'll definitely get what's going on.

In the 2nd reply of Elcobbola, he detected that one of my deleted file named "Tea plantations in Munnar, India.jpg" is clearly a work of VidhuS on 500px.com .But my friend said that he has deleted everything in original details also reduced the resolution and cropped it. Then how he revealed it?

And as per the file you mentioned, I've deleted because I saw that the photo is of low resolution :) :)  HPD   talk  17:39, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

The author of the source image and your uploaded image were the same, so it is obvious that this image is from the source i mentioned above or are you trying to say that your friend modified the author in here too? If yes, then he must have access on that site and this file can be restored if he send an email to our COM:OTRS team from his official address :) ~ Nahid Talk 10:23, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
No! I'm sure he haven't modified it in that page because he don't have access to any pages on internet (other than social networking). He might have downloaded the image from there, cropped it and modified the cropped image only. :) Another thing, is that you who added me on bad authors list? I'm not able to upload any images from Flickr (few days ago I tried it) and Elcobbola detected it then he messaged me (see my talk page)  HPD   talk  17:24, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
No, i didn't! and Elcobbola warned you just for copyright violations. By the way, here, you may see all Flickr bad authors list. ~ Nahid Talk 19:24, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi,

I'm the photographer and owner of the copyright of this picture: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Escultura_Leitor.jpg

I have sent the email regarding authorisation, but you found the original website, created by the company I own, Trisong, as you can see in the footer in the website.

When this file will be recovered? This was a huge mistake and my work is being compromised by this.

Multiple deleted files images of single subject.

The following items were deleted for copyright violations.

Proper permissions were given from their original publisher. According to their website, which was used as a reference, here's what it said;

"That includes all of our original content; comics, games, music, novels, video, and web (that the following social media channels; HSGmi Instagram)"
"educational purposes (that includes any reference works; like encyclopedias, educational journals, a thesis, or an essay.)"
"This work by Heaven Sent Gaming is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License. Permissions beyond the scope of this license may be available at http://heavensentgaming.com/about/copyright-content-usage/."

Should I mention that on further images from this source on the Commons? I'm sorry for the confusion!

By the by! I requested a move on one of the mentioned images, File:7009ca98bcc811e2979f22000a1f8ae3 7.jpg.

@DunDunDunt: The link clearly says that the content is copyrighted and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License if they are linked and relinked, redistributed, reblogged, retweeted, and reposted. So we can't host the files because Commons files are hosted to be redistributed even Commercially. See COM:L for details. Thanks! ~ Nahid Talk 22:10, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

"files under a "non-commercial" license are OK only if they are at the same time also released under a free license that allows commercial use." according to Commons:Licensing. Which this clearly does. DunDunDunt (talk) 22:19, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

@DunDunDunt: If a file is released under both "CC-BY-SA" and "CC-BY-NC-SA" then No license is permissible. The collage is necessarily a copyright violation, since it can't satisfy both licenses at once. ~ Nahid Talk 22:23, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Ted Lewis image

Hi,

You deleted this image but it has the right permissions.

In the "terms of Use", linked as permissions, (which are very long-winded) it states that the user of Photobucket agrees that any image published for public view "Waives all copyrights" and also allows for "modifications".

This is the lowest level of restriction possible and makes it acceptable for Wikimedia.

Here is the Wikimedia image page. Can you please take another look at it? I know the "terms of service" (which contain the needed permissions) are rather long in this case, but the permissions are in there).

  • I was able to save time by using the "Find" search tool on my browser to find the copyright info in the rather long legal language.

Here is the image link, https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ted_Lewis,_former_president_of_St._Mary%27s_College_of_Maryland..jpg

Sincere thanks! :-)

Hello, This page clearly states that contents from this site are free to copy, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce and create derivative works from it via the Site, but you can not use it for a commercial purpose. Now, according to commons license policy media files from commons are free to use for any purpose even commercially. So this file is not compatible with commons licensing. Unnecessary files

Hi Nahid,

I came across these files which are orphans and do not have any use of Wiki.
File:Sibichen k mathew irs.jpg
File:Advisor trai conducting a seminar.jpg
Both of these images are of the same person, Sibichen K Mathew, and do not serve any specific purpose on Wiki, except for taking space. I thought that it should be brought into your notice.

Thanks for keeping Wiki clean! :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.91.140.242 (talk • contribs)

Hi Nahid, I've removed the image from TRAI's article. It does not have any encyclopedic value, as there's nothing special about it that makes it worthy for wiki. It's your call, you decide! I have seen that the banner, which we used for an article about the EU Open Data Portal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EU_Open_Data_Portal) disappeared from the page because you have apparently deleted it from Wiki Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Eu-odp-promo-banner-250x250.png).

Deletion of images File:Barsukov_Valery_Leonidovich.jpg and Burba_a_a_c1968.jpg.

Hi, your deletion of the images 1) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barsukov_Valery_Leonidovich.jpg 2) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burba_a_a_c1968.jpg does not look correct as there are templates which announce that these images are pending OTRS permission after the letter send by me to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on 10 November 2014.

Anyway there are also the words that the template is added on 4 November 2014 and is for 15 days. Now, when the letter by me (as the creator and sole owner of the exclusive copyright for these images) was send to permossion-commons on 10 November 2014, one should wait for the OTRS decision, but not to delet the images.

Due to it I ask you to restore the two deleted images named above to act within the Wikipedia rules. --Георгий Елизаров (talk) 09:52, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Georgiy Elizarov (ru: Георгий Елизаров, user’s page https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A3%D1%87%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA:%D0%93%D0%B5%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%95%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B7%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B2)

Hi, My deletion were correct indeed according to the deletion rules of commons. Please let me clarify, medias those missing permission for 7 days are eligible for deletion. And a simple OTRS pending tag means that "it has been claimed that permission has been sent in by email. However, the permission has not been received by the Commons OTRS team for verification" also note that "if an email cannot be found in the OTRS system, this file may be deleted for lack of valid licensing information." When such email is found in otrs the concerned file is tagged with otrs received (in case the message was not sufficient to confirm permission) or otrs confirmed. Now in your case you don't need to worry about since, you've sent the permission to otrs, once the email is checked out, an otrs agent will restore the file for you (This might take few days while otrs is backlogged). Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 10:48, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. I should clarify that the two deleted images had templates with such wording: "Unless verification of permission is given, the image can be speedy deleted 15 days after this template was added and the uploader was notified: (4 November 2014)." So, it is clear that 15 days after 4 November 2014 is 19 November 2014. So, it was too early to delete these images.
The whole history looks very unsatisfactory because these images have been originally loaded with all necessary data as own work under a free license. Such loading of self work does not need any OTRS permission at all. I am 67 years old and in 1968 and 1986 really made photographs of these persons who were my colleagues and chiefs. But someone user decided that it looks to be not my own work. I have not recieved any explanation of such approach. Instead, the template was attached for deletion. On 5 October 2014 I've send separate letters on the each image to confirm my authorship. But there was no reaction from OTRS. And on 4 November a new template have been added by someone. After that I've send another letter on 10 November to confirm my rights. So, there is no reason to delete these images untill the question be resolved by ORTS. Regards, Georgiy Elizarov Георгий Елизаров (talk) 18:37, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
My bad, though my deletion were correct i was just quoted wrong. After reviewing the deleted version i've just found that these files were tagged with No permission since template NOT with OTRS pending template. So it is obvious that files need to be deleted. Besides that a just small query, did you send the email to otrs? if yes then please email me your email address, from where you sent the permission. I'll look for your email at otrs. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 19:04, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
These files were tagged with template which says (this is a copy saved by me earlier): "This image is missing verification of permission. It has an author and source, and it has been claimed that permission has been sent in by email. However, the permission has not been received by the Commons OTRS team for verification. Please forward proof of permission it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org.
Unless verification of permission is given, the image can be speedy deleted 15 days after this template was added and the uploader was notified: (4 November 2014).
If you have any questions feel free to contact any OTRS volunteer or ask at the OTRS Noticeboard."
The principal words here are "15 days" and the date the tag was added: "(4 November 2014)." That is why I've told on incorrect deletion, i. e. before the 15-day term, which should be on 19 November.
Anyway, the current situation is a new one, as the permission was issued yesterday night: PermissionOTRS|id=2014111010016319
Please, check your mailbox, where I forward the OTRS letter.
I would greatly appreciate if you are able to restore the two images. I ask you to do it because I have no possibility to reload these images just now. The case is that the processed scans of paper prints were lost in my previous computer crash. Due to it it is necessary to make new scans of my old paper prints and this is not a problem, but it will take considerable time to fulfill processing of the electronic versions to remove numerous small defects, such as lines, dots and so on "trash", which take place on the old paper prints.
Thank you for understanding and cooperation. Regards, Georgiy Elizarov --Георгий Елизаров (talk) 22:00, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Nahid

I am new at Wikimedia Commons, just putted my first artwork in to it: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jewelry_women.png and you requested it to be deleted. I don´t understand why. It is my own creation, both the painting and the photograph. And it is signed with CC-BY at the bottom of the photo + I did choose CC-BY in Commons when uploading it. I really need explanation, am very disappointed I don´t seem to be able to contribute paintings, drawings, photographs into Wikimedia Commons if this is the welcome greetings my works gets. I was interested to see how the Wiki worlds works and was hoping it would welcome more artists in my country to give their work with open licences or public domain into it. Am starting huge project in my country where I was hoping to involve lots of artists to contribute their works to Wiki. Please explain to me why you think this work of mine did have a copyright, which it does definately not. I guess I have to find another platform that welcome open licences artworks.

The person who marked the image as problematic likely did so because there was no way for him to have known that you are the original author of the work (anyone can open an account by your name and upload the image), and therefore had the rights to release it into the appropriate license. Commons has a huge issue with people finding images online and then uploading them as their own work, so we can sometimes be overzealous in making sure that people actually have the right to release what they are releasing. Once the email procedure is done an otrs agent restore the file for you and a note will be added to the image so that this will not happen again. I apologize for the inconvenience. ~ Nahid Talk 22:50, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Nahid Thanks for your answer. I did send the email to OTRS so I hope the problem will be solved this time, and that my future works on Wikimedia Commons will not be deleted as soon as I put it in. I do have one other question to you. Do everyone that are uploading on Wikimedia Commons do have to email this permission? If so it is NOT obvious/clear enough. I at least missed that information.

The permission only seems to be for one photo, what about future photos. I thought it was enough to choose the right licence. I am sorry if I sound frustrated, well I am. Disappointed about it seems to be harder than I thought to participate. Do want to be part of the open knowledge world and contribute to it. I understand the problem you are working on thought when people are putting copyrighted photos into Commons. My feeling is that many people give up after their first attempt and NEVER do upload images again if this is the welcome greetings they get. That was my first reaction and actually the reason for I did quit using the Icelandic wikibook many years ago. Someone did throw away the book I did just start +the hole page that did link to small books I was letting my students at university level work on). I never could get those things back, my knowledge was not enough. Anyway, I am returning now to the Wiki world and hope I will have more success this time. This start is not good thought.

Thanks for giving me chance to complain here at your page and thanks for your answer. I do preciete it.

Thanks for the quick email. No, they don't need to. We only ask user to email only if there is any question, evidence may need to be supplied that the copyright owner has indeed released the file under the given licence. You may also find this page helpful if you want to contribute in future. Your future own works will not be deleted because of copyright violation, if there's any problem in near future please refer me or feel free to ask me. oh, your email is received and i'm ready to restore the file. Finally, have a great day! Cheers! ~ Nahid Talk 00:14, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Nahid for your quick response. Great job you are doing. I could not believe how fast you did response to the email. Had read it could take up to 60 days.... and thought I would then have to wait that long to upload the next photo. Thanks for your answer here. Will read and learn more about Wiki Commons and maybe one day I will be experienced enough to contribute more to Wiki than just my own works. Will learn more next mounths and do experiments and if I like it I will inform others about it and probably teach how to use it. Thanks a lot Nahid. Sibba Joa

Image: CNS Liaoning (CV-16).jpg

Hello NahidSultan. File:CNS Liaoning (CV-16).jpg is an original work, and was reproduced by airforceworld.com. The reproduced work was watermarked at the bottom left corner while the photo unloaded to wikicommons was clean. I explained on the talk page, but it was deleted without any respond. Could you please tell me why? Thanks. --巡海 (talk) 00:47, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi,Please send an email to COM:OTRS via permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using your official address where the content was originally published and explain your situation to them. If everything works out, they will restore the file for you. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 19:43, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

deleted image_Dr. Marroco

Sorry to bother you Nahid. Could you guide me or provide me a link to upload the picture according to your requirements. I am a direct collaborator of Dr. María Marroco, she gave me the file for public use. Thanks in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.57.251.12 (talk • contribs)

Hi there, You don't need to upload the file again. All you need to do is email to our OTRS team via permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using this email consent. If everything works out there then an otrs agent will restore the file for you. Cheers! ~ Nahid Talk 08:16, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

You have deleted images I had tagged for copyright violations. But that user uploaded a lot of images, none from his own.

Do not you think all that user's files should be deleted, regardless of notice?

Hi, I believe all files are now deleted per Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Tutto SoFresh. ~ Nahid Talk 13:43, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

Mrc Reift Picture

Dear Nahid. I had this picture from Mister Marc Reift himself and he specified the pic is free and compatible with the Commons license. There is absolutely no reason to delete this file. Thank you very much for your concern but in that case, the rules were respected. You can remove your demand.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Vediovis365 (talk • contribs)

Hi Vediovis365, I believe you have the permission but the fact is a portrait picture is usually taken by someone other than the subject. We would like to know whether the photographer released it under a compatible license or otherwise sold/donated the copyright to Mister Marc Reift. Can you please have the photographer send in a free license release for this image and ask him/her to send the permission to COM:OTRS? ~ Nahid Talk 15:43, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello, NahidSultan. You have removed the file because it violated copyright laws. However, despite the fact that the site of the institution withdrew message free license, this file is free under paragraph D) Art. 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On Copyright and Related Rights" as is logo (symbol) organization - an educational institution. Accordingly, this {{PD-UA-exempt}}. Please restore the file and specify a new license. --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 13:41, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

The same applies to the file "File:Емблема конкурсу "Лелека".jpg" --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 13:46, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Second logo is not free. Logo of contest is not logo of organisation. First case is difficult. Is it official logo of organisation? Which organisation logo is it? I think you should go to COM:UDEL.--Anatoliy (talk) 15:44, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Ramblin' Eddy

Hello NahidSultan,

I'm Ria Veldkamp and I sent 3 pictures for the Ramblin' Eddy Wikipedia page, but 2 pictures were removed, although I was the one who took the pictures. Can you tell me why these pictures were removed and what can I do to get them back on this page.

Thanks for advance for your answer,

Ria Veldkamp. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RiaVeldkamp (talk • contribs)

Hi, I believe the photos you're talking about were File:No,...You Don't, optreden "De Tibbe", Sappemeer..jpg and File:Eddy-Veldkamp-150x150.jpg. Both files were published previously on a website and in that case we need permission via COM:OTRS. Please send an email to COM:OTRS via permissions-commons@wikimedia.org using your official address where the content was originally published and explain your situation to them. If everything works out, they will restore the file for you. Regards. ~ Nahid Talk 21:40, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Autopatrol

Dear Nahid, a month ago I made a request for autopatrol, and you asked me to renew the request after a month, so I kindly ask you to check if my activities has reached the level where autopatrol can be granted. Best regards, Dan Koehl (talk) 13:50, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I've granted your autopatrol right. Hope to see you active on commons in the future as well. Regards! ~ Nahid Talk 14:16, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello Nahid,

I wanted to thank you for offering to help with the File metadata cleanup drive on Commons. We now have numbers to measure the amount of Commons files missing machine-readable information. Most of the files here have a license template, but there still about 500,000 remaining files (out of 24 million) missing an {{Information}} template, and that's where your help would be invaluable.

We're currently trying to find groups of files whose description pages are alike, so that we can use bots to automatically take that information and put it into an information template. If you still want to help, it would be great if you could look at the list of files and see if you can find such groups. You can also use the no_information tool to limit the results by uploader, or the first characters of the file name; this can help identify batch uploads.

Once you find groups of files with information in the same order or format, you can add a section to the bot requests page, so that a bot can go through them and fix them all automatically (or you can do it yourself if you have a bot, or with VisualFileChange).

In 10 days, we've already managed to add information templates to over 10% of the 500,000 remaining files. I'm hoping you can help us keep this momentum and get through the rest so we can get rid of this backlog once and for all :)

Thank you, and I wish you happy end-of-year holidays if you celebrate them! Guillaume (WMF) (talk) 19:13, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for not knowing your language but as far as i understand via machine translation you've asked explanation about your file deletion. Well, they are originally published on another website first so we need confirmation via COM:OTRS that you are the author of those files. Please send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from where the files were originally published. Thanks. ~ Nahid Talk 17:59, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Could you please review the license again? From what I remember it was a screenshot from a YouTube video which was tagged as Creative Commons. Thanks --Yerevantsi (talk) 17:58, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yerevantsi, Restored! Thank you for pointing it out and after reviewing further i've found that all videos uploaded by that youtube account also linked to their official website. So it's clear that the specific youtube account is their official one even they don't have verified mark. Apologizes for any inconveniences. Have a nice day. ~ Nahid Talk 19:00, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! --Yerevantsi (talk) 19:59, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
