Blanking

[edit]

Hi Nimbus227,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Category:Dassault Mirage G on Commons. But blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use {{speedy|reason here}} and add it on top of the page; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. –Krinkletalk 19:56, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, it was only a temporary blank before I added the parent category to it. I usually add a word (to kick off a new category) then delete it, then add the parent category, will see if I can do it another way without it being flagged up as page blanking, cheers Nimbus227 (talk) 21:10, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not kick off a new category directly the way you want it ? Example: Edit Category:MyNewCategory and create it with [[Category:ParentCategory]]. A category doesn't have to exist before you can add the parent category Krinkletalk 23:12, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Thank you for uploading File:Walters 500.png to the Wikimedia Commons. I noticed that when you uploaded from another Wikimedia project, you left out some important information, or copied it incorrectly. In the future, please consider using CommonsHelper, a tool which automates the process of moving files over. Thank you,

I think you will find that it is an Astafan, the early version with the small fan!!--Petebutt (talk) 04:17, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As fitted to the Fouga 90!!--Petebutt (talk) 04:19, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Images of the Astafan are available on the internet, this head-on shot of the engine installed in the Fouga 90 shows clear differences to the fan of the unidentified engine at the Midland Air Museum, fewer, narrower chord blades is one difference. The engine is much smaller in length and diameter than the Astafan. The rear section (combustion chamber and turbine) of the Astafan are apparently from the Astazou, again there are clear differences.
If you enlarge the images you will see that the fuel/oil line pipes use British AGS fittings (most not wire-locked) and the fibreglass fan shroud uses Dzus fasteners. The engine is also sitting on a purpose-made test fixture, either for ground use only or possibly a training aid. The museum staff could not tell me what the engine was so the images were e-mailed to the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust, they could not identify it either. As the museum contains many exhibits from the local area (Coventry) other searches have been tried including Noel Penny Turbines, Blackburn (Turbomeca license), Rolls-Royce Ansty, Armstrong Siddeley and Rover. I think it would be very strange for a rare French engine to be displayed in a British museum with no connection to it.
The engine is not displayed well due to lack of space and is difficult to access, next time I visit I will ask if we can move it for a much better look, there was no data plate visible but there may be one somewhere. Nimbus227 (talk) 08:58, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Mystery un-ravelling!! This is almost certainly a Budworth turbofan from David Budworth's stable. I haven't been able to pin down a designation or name yet though!!--Petebutt (talk) 00:20, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See [1] for a pic of the turbojet version in the advert.--Petebutt (talk) 00:24, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Most probably the 500lbf thrust Budworth Puffin turbofan!--Petebutt (talk) 03:05, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
