Hi, Just a friendly mention that I've uploaded a better version (Alternate 2) with some correction of the file. You'll maybe consider support it instead of the original here. Have a good day. --Acarpentier 03:52, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FP bot

Hi, in April 2008 I saw you mentioned that you were thinking about a bot for FPC closure. Did it get any further with that ? I have been thinking if I should start looking into it. /Daniel78 (talk) 10:30, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Retina

[edit]

Hi Torro, I saw that you have File:Fig retine.png on your todo list. Apart from conversion to SV graphics I see a need to clarify the direction of light travel, e.g. by indicating curvature of the eye ball as in File:Fig retine bended.png. Obviously non-expert readers get easily confused because traversion of the nerve layer seems quite absurd at the first glance, see also the discussion at de:WP:Redaktion Medizin#Netzhaut - Einfallsrichtung des Lichts.

Unfortunately graphics design is really not my field of expertise, so I can't do it myself. Therefore I am trying to find someone willing to take this task, see also de:WP:Grafikwerkstatt#Netzhaut. What do you think? Maybe File:Retina.jpg could also serve as a starting point for conversion. Regards, --Burkhard (talk) 12:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Norro!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Norro style icons

[edit]

Hello. I create few month ago Category:Flat round icons by Norro, and Category:Round icons by Norro to merge all icons look like that same. I create a lot of categories by "theme", because i like to see all icon look like the same together, it is usefull to select/compete a theme. And now i often use the author name into the category name, because identifying a "style" with only words can create a very big category name (i dont know... "bordered round icons with shader at the right", it became ridiculous).

But i have got problem Commons:Deletion requests/Norro categories, then do you have an idea for the category name? Or a name for your styles?

Maybe the problem is not the author name but the "by", because a lot of people create icons using your style, and with the "by Norro" we can understand you create the file. Then, maybe "Norro round icons", and "Norro flat round icons" can be better. Here, "Norro" is used as a common noun, and not as a proper noun.

As you see, someone rename one of this categories, and we have another discussion at Category talk:Round voting icons.

Thanks a lot. ~ bayo or talk 14:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license

[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Current source schematic symbols

[edit]

I'm wondering if you know about the usage of the last two symbols in your figure "International_graphic_symbols_of_current_source.png‎".

Internationally, physicists like to use the last two. I know the last one is an american/international standard. The second to last one is also used, and is often preferred by physicists because it doesn't look like a voltage source (which is a single circle), and instead looks like two linked circles. You have this title "nicht DIN" or "not DIN" for that one but it seems like it also must be a standard symbol for usage somewhere. Do you know where? Do you know how the usage of 2 circles started? Also, sometimes I've seen 2 opaque overlapping circles for a current source. Any information that you have on this would be appreciated.

Request to extend permissions

[edit]

Hi,

Im currently writing a thesis for my master in medical imaging. I would've liked to use your picture http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Epipolar_geometry.svg to illustrate epipolar constraints in stereovision, but you published it under CC-BY-SA (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/), and my thesis is writen under CC-BY-NC-ND (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/), which prevents me from using your image because of the "Share alike" clause.

However, I believe the intent behind those two licences are essentially the same, and I therefore ask you your permission to use this illustration in my thesis under the CC-BY-NC-ND licence. Would you agree to let me do so?

I'd like to know more about licensing your Arecibo Message

[edit]

I put this message in the wrong place a day or so ago.

As concerns the image at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arecibo_message.svg , it's not clear to me what is in the public domain and what is YOUR intellectual property/original work. My GUESS is going to be that the 0s and 1s that can be made into black and white squares is in the public domain, and that maybe the black and white squares are in the public domain too, with a further GUESS being that the way some of the white squares have been changed to COLORED squares is all according to YOUR original ideas and done by YOUR original alteration of a previously black-and-white image. Is that true? If it is (i.e., if the color-scheme is YOUR work, not taken from NASA or other public-domain source) then does the license say that other people can use it ONLY if they give credit? That image, as it is colored-in at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Arecibo_message.svg HAS been used without giving you any credit (but maybe that's ok, maybe not). It's in the YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm1tBF4h8nQ but I don't see a Source listed for it within the video or in the text on the video's page. In fact, the uploader even says "I'll make it colorful" at 3:06 and, at 3:35, "By the way, when I replaced the black and white image with the colored image, I made the black pixels the zeroes". (Formerly the zeroes had been white pixels.) Well, she's talking as if SHE's the one who did the coloring. Obviously, she did not. If you did, perhaps your copyright is being infringed (unless she gives credit to you and I just can't find it). There are many suppositions in this post that I'd have to know to be correct before I can say "I am fairly sure that Norro's copyright is being infringed", so I just don't know. But YOU know, and you know whether or not you made arrangements with the uploader allowing her to say that "she" colored the pixels a certain way. Just to check certain things in the video I came to the Wikipedia article on the Arecibo Message, and imagine my surprise to find that SAME COLORS for the 0s and 1s in the Wikipedia article. At the very least if this coloring is a standard reference in the public domain the uploader should not be claiming that SHE colored it. So, I just thought I'd be sure you are not unaware of this video. If the URL I pasted above does not work for you, search YouTube for the Channel "Up and Atom"'s video titled "Can You Decode This Alien Message?" uploaded less than a week before this post (Oct 16, 2023, 2:34 New York Time). Maybe everything is fine. Maybe you're being abused. Maybe it's something in-between.2600:1700:6759:B000:1C64:8308:33BC:E2D6 06:34, 16 October 2023 (UTC)Jasper McJasper[reply]
