Hello, Krinkle!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:VOC_logo.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Datumsformat mit Pipe

Hallo Krinkle,

Okay, kein problem . Gruße Krinkle (talk) 01:01, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Mistake in your drawing

Hello Krinkle,

in File:Diafragma.svg the lower light ray should be diffracted the lens and not the diaphragm. Maybe you can correct that. Cheers --Cwbm (commons) (talk) 16:18, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

I intentionally removed the frame from this image, as the photograph of the frame would not be that of a two-dimensional object (thus being more doubtful from a copyright point-of-view). I would also prefer not to have my user account connected with a higher-resolution copy (as currently viewed or, for that matter, in the history of the image page) for reasons that will be obvious if you are aware of the NPG threats against a Wikipedia user in a similar case. If you want to upload the larger, framed view you are welcome to do that as a separate image, but please do not do it on top of my upload. I have reverted your changes and will inquire on Commons:Village pump if it is possible to completely remove the higher-resolution image from the history of that page. --Hegvald (talk) 13:36, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, an administrator deleted "my" lower-resolution image and left the cropped, higher-resolution version you uploaded as the only version. I have no problem with that. --Hegvald (talk) 18:28, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Flickr reviewing

Hello Krinkle, and thank you for your application to be a flickr reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. Congratulations! Please see Commons:Flickr images if you haven't done so already, and the backlogs at Category:Flickr images needing human review and Category:Flickr review needed. A helpful script for easy-tagging flickr images is at importScript('User:Patstuart/Flickrreview.js'); (which you can add to your monobook.js), and you can add User reviewer or User trusted to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your work on Commons! :) –Juliancolton | Talk 02:18, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a lot Juliancolton ! ----Krinkletalk 09:32, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Unfree images

Hi! Thank you for helping out with Flickr images. When images fail review you do not need to nominate them for deletion. They can be speedy deleted. I often add "no permission" to inform uploader of the problem. If there is no chance for permission or if uploader allready has a lot of notices i just delete them. :-) --MGA73 (talk) 20:29, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I was not 100% sure as the script to add the tags did have a cv(copyvio)-tag but I was doubting if false license counts for copyvio. I'll speedy-tag them as unfree from now on. ----Krinkletalk 21:59, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Strange things happened here

The file changed name, but is somewhere present File:Church of Marigny-l'Église I can't find it yet. --Havang(nl) (talk) 11:55, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

The PrefixIndex is your friend: File:Church_of_Marigny-(*). I'd say File:Church of Marigny-l'Église (Nièvre,Fr).JPG. -- --Krinkletalk 11:58, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, do you know what happened there? I made a hotcat addition. --Havang(nl) (talk) 12:01, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
I have no idea, you could report it at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-HotCat.js if you believe it's related to HotCat. -- --Krinkletalk 12:04, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
The brackets were changed in #'s. I'll make a second try and if it occurs again, I'll report it there. --Havang(nl) (talk) 12:08, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
It's oke now. I see that the brackets were changed in the title, but also in the description. greetings. --Havang(nl) (talk) 12:15, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Patrol

Hey, thanks for activating this nice feature! Would you also be able to update Commons:Patrol? I haven't checked the feature out yet, since I'm quite busy at the moment and there's no time for patrolling vandalism right now. Thanks, --The Evil IP address (talk) 19:06, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Your signature

Hi Krinkle. Could you please use a normal signature without transcluding a template (see en:Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages#Transclusion of templates)? Thanks. --Leyo 15:43, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Done. --Krinkletalk 15:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
I've pasted the wiki-text directly into my Preferences' signature field. I've speedied the redundant template. -- --Krinkletalk 15:51, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. --Leyo 16:04, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
